Hi Barry,
Did you install anything new just prior to doing the OS X 10.6.8 Combo update?
Have you tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 ?
Another suggestion,
Boot in Safe mode, run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
Then restart normally.
Or better still: Repair
Thanks Ronni and Robert
I will try Ronni's suggestion first, it will have to be tomorrow. As the
problem seems not to happen immediately on start up it may be a while before I
can be happy it is resolved but I will keep in touch.

Hi All --
-- My sister-in-law asked me to look at a problem on her fairly new
iMac, and although I was able to sort something out, use of the iMac
was greatly hindered by unwanted appearance of drop-down menus. For

Hi All,
Well, with Apple cancelling the MobilMe services, June 2012, for web hosting
and the demise of iWeb. So what’s are the alternatives? Steve Sande har written
bog Ten ways to replace iWeb and MobileMe hosting” that some of us MobileMe
and iWeb users may find useful …

Hi David,
That sounds as though it has everything to do with the keyboard. Rather than a
standard mouse click, you seem to be getting a Control mouse click. Try a
different keyboard temporarily to see if things change. If the problem goes
away it could be a stuck key or a hardware issue.
Hi David,
This could be the mouse … Go to System Preferences keyboard and mouse and
reset the buttons on the mouse.
What mouse is your sister-in-law using?
Cheers,
Ronni

Peder,
• organise free web hosting at http://www.freeservers.com/. You get fairly
reasonable ads added to your site, and there is a page size limit, but it's
free.
* develop your site locally with iWeb
• upload with their uploader. Bit of a learning curve, but works well

Good Morning Ronni
I have run repair disk and repair permissions as you suggested. One error was
detected and repaired. Machine started up OK in normal mode and has been
running without apparent problems since about 6:30. Little has been done on it

After this did you re-run Disk Repair until NO errors are reported as in my

Yes I did run Disk Repair a second time and no errors were reported. I then
ran Repair permissions as you suggested but have not run it again since
starting in normal mode but I will do it now.

Thanks Ashley
It was my intention to run the Hardware Test if the current suggestions from
Ronni were not successful. I don't want to try the shot gun approach yet and
try too many things at once as if the problem is solved I will have no idea as
to what solved it

Hi Ken,
No problem about the Linked In request. I was just wondering, were the requests
sent from a Mac or a Windows computer?
Cheers,

Hi Ken
No worries mate, I appreciate your concern.
I did notice in the business section of today's west and article on LinkedIn,
and I assume it is the same system you are referring to. Looks like very big
business, especially for those who want everyone else to know about thier own
business
Hi Ken,just out of curiosity I would also like to know how these 'LinkedInrequest' are generated and become almost viral as I have received a few request. If they give you feedback could you forward it on as a warning to others.I'm sure that this type of spam does more damage toLinkedInthen they

Hi Ronni, that explains it.To me it seems a common mistake occurring onLinkedIn judging by those links.PerhapsLinkedIn has something to answer for, as their opt in options are not clear for all users. They should have a dialogue box pre-warning the user that an auto mailing invitation will be sent
Don't feel bad, Ken. It seems that you are the victim of a deliberate deception

Hi Carlo,
I would not call this a “Deliberate deception” by LinkedIn. Sure, Ken is not
the first person to have made this error.
At the bottom of one of the links I previously sent is this explanation how Ken
can stop the “Reminder emails” being sent out to everyone in his Address Book …
