Re: emails

2020-11-24 Thread Peter Crisp
Thanks for confirming that Peter. Is there any pattern in those emails
which are seen on your wife's devices? Are they only from one sender
or is it all senders that end up there?

Kind Regards

 Hi Peter
We run about 10 different emails from the domain, I’m the primary
account holder and it doesn’t happen with any other email address.
 I’ll have a look anyway but I don’t think it’s that.

Re: emails

2020-11-24 Thread Peter Curtis
Hi Stephen
We used to use the same Apple ID but haven’t for many months.
My wife wanted her own ID and got one.
The emails go to her (Apple) computer and her iPad, she does not use her phone
for emails.
Many thanks
Peter

Re: emails

2020-11-24 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi, I don't believe there is any connection between having the same
Apple ID and distribution of emails - unless using iCloud email
addresses.
First of all I am assuming both of you are using the native Apple Mail
application for your emails in/out. What is below is predicated on
this assumption.
Check the Mail>Accounts panel on all devices and make sure that the
devices have the accounts for only those required - ie make sure the
Mail account on your wife's devices don't have a mail account with
your credentials.
Have you got any rules set in your Mail account to auto forward to
your Wife's email address?
Are you receiving emails intended for your wife?
Please answer these and we can go the next step to resolving this
Peter.

Kind Regards

Peter Crisp

Re: emails: unwanted deletion

2014-02-20 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Jennifer,

IMAP on the iPhone may have been the culprit

If your husband had his email account always set up as a POP Account on his Mac
then set his email account to IMAP on his iPhone... Yes, this can ( most
likely will) result in missing emails.
Everything either needs to be configured as POP or IMAP.

Kind regards,

You need to check that your husbands email account is a POP account and if
it is, that Account must be setup as a POP Account on all devices i.e. his
 Mac iPad iPhone.

Using POP Accounts with Multiple Devices

POP accounts, here is the setting to ensure the emails are set to being kept
 on the device:

  iOS Devices Mail

 1. In Settings, select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
 2. Select the account for which you wish to change the settings.
 3. Select Advanced, located at the bottom of the list.
 4. Select the Delete from server option.
 5. Choose NEVER from the pop-up menu.
 6. Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.

However, you will also need to configure any other devices or programs you
use to check your pop account to stop this issue.

 OS X Mail

If you use the Mac OS X Mail application as your email client, you can
deselect the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message option
under the Advanced account settings in Mail Preferences. However, the
default setting, to remove mail after one week, should be adequate for most
 users.

Here's how to set your account to remove the messages from the server after
 one week:

 1. In Mail select Mail Preferences.
 2. Click the Accounts tab.
 3. Select the account for which you wish to change the settings.
 4. Click the Advanced tab.
 5. Select the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message option.
 6. Select a time frame from the pop-up menu.
After one week: This setting works the same as After one day, except that
 Mail waits one week.

devices, and instructions on how to configure for specific email clients -
 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3228

 POP vs. IMAP info -
 http://computer.howstuffworks.com/e-mail-messaging/email4.htm
IMAP is known for its ability to keep all your devices and computers in sync
with one another, while POP often falls short in this area.
 POP is an older format.

Jennifer, I will be working most of today, but will get back to you when
possible if you require any further help.

If it's POP mail then the message gets downloaded directly to your computer.

So if the emails appear on the laptop, and then disappear, then I don't
think this can be a server problem.

I'm not familiar with how Mail works. If it uses a file system, then
disappearing messages implies a flaky hard disk.

If it uses a database, disappearing messages implies a flaky database -
which /may/ be related to a flaky hard disk.

You could try either or both the below:

Once deleted, the message turns grey and will come up in your searches and will
not go to the trash all of the time.
Go to View/Hide Deleted Messages to get rid of them.
Go to View/Show Deleted Messages to show the deleted messages.

Re: emails: unwanted deletion

2014-02-19 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jennifer,

As Tim has mentioned POP accounts do not work like IMAP accounts, which
reliably store all of your emails on the server.
You need to check that your husbands email account is a POP account and if it
is, that Account must be setup as a POP Account on all devices i.e. his Mac

Using POP Accounts with Multiple Devices

POP accounts, here is the setting to ensure the emails are set to being kept on
the device:

 iOS Devices Mail

However, you will also need to configure any other devices or programs you use
to check your pop account to stop this issue.

OS X Mail

If you use the Mac OS X Mail application as your email client, you can deselect
the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message option under the
Advanced account settings in Mail Preferences. However, the default setting, to
remove mail after one week, should be adequate for most users.

Here's how to set your account to remove the messages from the server after one
week:

POP is an older format.

Re: emails: unwanted deletion

2014-02-19 Thread Jennifer Lefroy
Thank you for the very clear instructions, Ronni, which I have carried out
(and for the offer of help had I been stuck). IMAP on the iPhone may have
been the culprit and perhaps it has been happening for some time, but not
with any thing important and so went unnoticed. Thank you Tim and Rob for
your informative suggestions. Time will tell, but it's a little like
Rumsfeldt's The things we don't know we don't know and so I won't really
be able to report back unless something is obviously wrong..
With best wishes,
Jennifer

 Hi Jennifer,

As Tim has mentioned POP accounts do not work like IMAP accounts, which
reliably store all of your emails on the server.
You need to check that your husbands email account is a POP account and if
it is, that Account must be setup as a POP Account *on all devices* i.e.
 his *Mac * *iPad iPhone*.

*Using POP Accounts with Multiple Devices*

POP accounts, here is the setting to ensure the emails are set to being
 kept on the device:

 * iOS Devices Mail*

 1. In *Settings,* select *Mail, Contacts, Calendars.*
 2. Select the account for which you wish to change the settings.
 3. Select *Advanced*, located at the bottom of the list.
 4. Select the *Delete from server* option.
 5. Choose *NEVER* from the pop-up menu.
 6. Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.

However, you will also need to configure any other devices or programs you
use to check your pop account to stop this issue.

 *OS X Mail*

If you use the Mac OS X Mail application as your email client, you can
deselect the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message option
under the Advanced account settings in Mail Preferences. However, the
default setting, to remove mail after one week, should be adequate for most
 users.

Here's how to set your account to remove the messages from the server
 after one week:

 1. In Mail select *Mail Preferences.*
 2. Click the Accounts tab.
 3. Select the account for which you wish to change the settings.
 4. Click the *Advanced *tab.
 5. Select the* Remove copy from server after retrieving a message*option.
 6. Select a time frame from the pop-up menu.
*After one week*: This setting works the same as After one day, except
 that Mail waits one week.

The harder to answer question is what email delivery mechanism you are

Re: Emails

2011-06-01 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Clive,

After you rebuilt the Mailboxes did you Quit Mail and then Open Mail again?

Have you tried moving the ‘Envelope Index’ to the Trash, as I suggested to
Rick in a previous email?

1. Quit Mail.

2. Drag this file to the Trash …

Home Library Mail 'Envelope Index'

When you launch Mail again, it’ll tell you that you need to “reimport” all your
messages

3. Let it do so—it’s recreating your envelope index from scratch, but don’t
worry, you won’t lose any data, such as labels or message status.
When it finishes, your mailboxes should behave correctly.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: emails to iphone

2011-02-03 Thread cm

Hi Clive,

David has pretty much captured it. As an alternative strategy though, if you
want to insulates yourself from the ISP provided email account, simply set-up a
gmail (hotmail, yahoo mail) account and use that exclusively. The iPhone setup
for a gmail account is incredibly simple because the defaults (port numbers,
SSL protocol, email server address) are all programmed in to the setup utility
and they don't have to be reentered. You can then forward your ISP provided
email account to your gmail account. The benefits of this approach are that you
can change ISP on a whim without having to email everyone in your address book
to inform them of an email address change. You can also set up multiple gmail
accounts for various purposes with very little effort. I have one account for
my subscriptions to newsgroups, for instance.

The downside is, of course, that the google-plex gets to see all your email. :-(

Cheers,
Carlo

The other advantage of a Google account is that I use Bigpond as my ISP and
often have trouble sending mail via their servers from the iPhone. Selecting
the Gmail servers as the sending servers has resolved all of these glitches.
Westnet may be more reliable.

I have turned off SSL on the send mail via Bigpond and not using it doesn't
bother me at all.

MobileMe might have the same advantages of being a good send server too.

Re: Emails show time 3hrs behind

Hi People,

It seems thisTime Stamp error is only happening in Entourage, not in Apple Mail?
If so check your prefs in Entourage they are possibly incorrect. Check what
Time Zone is set for New Events and email.

Re: Emails show time 3hrs behind

2009-12-17 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Barb,

Entourage is known for this time stamp problem.

Could you just check this please?
Open System Preferences, Date Time Preferences.
First ensure that the correct time zone is selected, and then make sure that
the correct date and time are entered.

Then, close System Preferences, and re-launch Entourage (quit and re-launch
if it was already open). Go to Entourage Preferences. Under General
Preferences, click Calendar. Select the proper Default time zone for
new events from the menu, and click OK.

The problem has to be caused by the Time not being set correctly on one of
these:

1. The Mail Server that sent the message
2. The Mail server that received the message
or
3. The Time is set correctly but an incorrect Time Zone has been selected.

I had this issue with Bob Howells email quite some time back, we eventually
solved the Time Stamp problem ... it was his ISP's Mail Server was using an
incorrect time.

Cheers,
Ronni

Just be aware that your enthusiasm may be curbed if you ever
try to

copy very large amounts of data at once (such as cloning your hard
drive!). USB 2.0 tends to choke and slow to a crawl under such
conditions. This is why a drive with a Firewire port, while more
expensive, is a much better option. It is much better at
sustaining

a transfer rate.

I certainly agree with Peter, I personally would not purchase a USB

Just be aware that your enthusiasm may be curbed if you ever try to
copy very large amounts of data at once (such as cloning your hard
drive!). USB 2.0 tends to choke and slow to a crawl under such
conditions. This is why a drive with a Firewire port, while more
expensive, is a much better option. It is much better at sustaining
 a transfer rate.

Re: emails

2009-05-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Yes WAMUGers, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Daniel
Kerr of MacWizardry.
I have been purchasing from Daniel, computers, external harddrives,
software, ipods, anything pertaining to 'The Macintosh way of life',
ever since I purchased my first computer ... and that is a long time ;-)

Not only does Daniel supply everything at a very reasonable price, his
support is unequalled to any other service I know.

Daniel also gives his time and knowledge FREE to our WAMUG Mailing
list, and works tirelessly to keep WAMUG existing.
I support Philippe Greg in promoting our local business. Sure I can
purchase cheaper elsewhere, but would I get the right advice, or the
service Daniel gives ... NO WAY!

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Everyone,

I totally support Greg's message regarding Daniel of Macwizardry fame.
I too bought hardrives and laptops from Daniel, and the external
drives are with FW and USB and all three of them have been extremely
reliable, and so is the internal drive I have installed in my G5
1.8Ghz PPC.

Furthermore, I have installed OS X 10.5.7 on one of the external FW
drives from Daniel, and regularly boot my machine from this drive.
This means that I am able to keep my older applications running on
10.3.9 installed on one of my internal drives. That's the beauty of
FireWire!

I guess that it is now a question of 'use it or loose it', and that's
why I would promote the use of the local businesses. I know that one
may get something a tad cheaper interstate or overseas, but nothing
beats the local dealer whom you can call or email for some advice or
support.

Kind regards all,

Philippe Chaperon

Hello Ken

Talk to Daniel Kerr at Macwizardry. He sells the Sarotech brand of
external

My 1TB is going strong.

They come in various configurations for USB, Firewire 400, Firewire

SATA or all of the above.

You can remove the hard drive and fit another one too.

Well, AFAIK SpamCop doesn't actually run any black-list. They have an
automated process that allows you to notify network administrators that
SPAM is coming from their network. They do this free of charge.

In addition to that, they offer a filtered mailbox, which you can pay

So, I'm not quite sure how Yahoo [..] have gotten themselves listed by

I use SpamCop almost daily, enjoy their service and have seriously been

pay to stop email that is coming to me unsolicited, but I'm willing to
consider a compromise where I help some talented programmers write cool
mail-parsing software.

On a side note, any ISP that condones SPAM needs to feel the brunt of
public opinion - including Yahoo. If that means that Yahoo gets stomped
on the toes, then I can't see too much wrong with that.

Finally, an ISP can decide on their own if they pre-filter SPAM based on
black-listing. If you don't like their pre-filter, then why not change
ISP?

There was a time when I disliked my ISP's decision to not filter SPAM,
but now I understand and even agree. I can filter SPAM all by myself.
However, I'd be very upset if my ISP got notification that a SPAMMER was
operating on their network and they did nothing about it - but I'm
pretty sure that's not the case...
