Trivia Question

2014-01-11 Thread Janet Anderson
What say we play a little trivia.Which character on TAGS who played
more than one character had the greatest promotion? In other words, this
character went from a low paying menial job to a well respected high paying
profession.See if you can guess to whom I refer.

David, I believe there are two possibilities. You could be referring to
Charles Thompson. He went from playing Asa, the bank security guard, in the
black and white years to playing Dr. Roberts in the color years. I'd say
that's a pretty good promotion! But then again, you could also be referring to
Jay Novello. He went from playing a con man in Guest of Honor to playing the
attorney Neil Bentley in Otis Sues the County. However, since the job of
con man/thief isn't technically a menial job and can be pretty lucrative, I
will say that Charles Thompson is the answer.

Clara's name changes

2014-01-11 Thread Janet Anderson
Here's another interesting tidbit. Clara was
called another name to begin with and had more than one last name. What
were they.

Elizabeth, I believe Hope Summers went by a total of three different names
through the course of the show--Bertha Edwards, Clara Johnson, and Clara
Edwards. Good question!

Greatest Promotion and Different Names

2014-01-11 Thread rehay
Maybe the biggest promotion would go to Howard Morris who went from being a
no-account Ernest T. Bass, to George the TV repairman. Of course then he went
on to be the great Leonard Blush, but somehow got un-promoted back down to
Ernest T. Bass when Malcolm Merriweather showed up. And just like Howard
Sprauge wasn't Ed the insurance man, but rather Jack Dodson playing different
characters, the same would apply here. And if you really wanted to get
technical, you could say Ernest T. Bass got promoted to Director of several of
the following episodes.
And also, anybody whose been here a while knows that Clara Edwards was once
Clara Johnson, just like Goober Pyle used to be Goober Beasley, and Floyd
Lawson was Floyd Colby.

Emmett Forrest

2014-01-11 Thread Larry Hamrick
Hey, Mayberry friends. Sunday marks one year since the passing of one of
Mayberry's best friends, Emmett Forrest, the man mostly responsible for the
collection at The Andy Griffith Museum and for helping keep the Mayberry spirit
alive in Mount Airy, NC.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to sit beside him at the Sunday morning
service at Mayberry Days. We had a great conversation about Andy and himself
and how The Andy Griffith Show affected him and his community. We also had
friendly talks whenever I visited the museum. Such a nice man.
Thank you Emmett. We miss you.

Promotions

2014-01-11 Thread Ken Anderson
I can think of two TAGS characters who made great promotions in employment.
The first was Emmett Clark's brother in law Ben Meechum. He first
appeared very early as a postal clerk when he and Barney were arguing over
wanted posters. Then he appeared as Martha Clark's brother in law who
owned the Meechum Insurance Company in Raleigh.

The second one that comes to mind is good old Asa. He began as a bank
guard and then went on to Weaver's as a night watchman, but eventually he
worked his way up to being a doctor who diagnosed Andy as having a flu bug..

I happen to know that Asa became a doctor after subscribing to the Learn a
Month magazine. He had a lot of time to read when he was the bank guard
and night watchman. Several issues were all about medicine.

Don't forget the man who was the postal clerk and Martha's brother was also
the presiding clergyman who married Dud and Charlene the second time (well,
you know what I mean!).

Trivia Question

2014-01-11 Thread DAVID QUINN

Most of you got the trivia question correct.Of course the answer was good
old Asa Breeney who went from being a bank guard/department store guard/hotel
clerk in the black and white episodes to being a doctor/veterinarian in the
color episodes. We should all be proud of Asa for graduating Medical School at
his advanced age. It is plain to see that there is no TAGS question that the
posters here on this site cannot answer. (Except of course, Who played Mr.
Schwump?)...Orville
