[libreoffice-website] Certificate Issue with "TheDocumentFoundation.com"
There seems to be a certificate issue with FireFox accessing "https://www.thedocumentfoundation.com"; site. It is having issues with the certificate and issuing a warning. Is anyone getting this? If so, could someone find a fix for the issue? Using Google Chrome and Chromium are also giving out the certificate warning. Perhaps all of the TDF and LibreOffice owned domains should be checked to make sure they are not throwing certificate warnings by using the "https" protocols. [libreoffice-website] "Necesita otro idioma" link is broken on ES Download page
FYI, the "Necesita otro idioma" link on the Spanish page [https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=rpm-x86_64&version=7.1.0&lang=es] is broken and leads to nowhere. It should lead to the languages page here [https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=rpm-x86_64&version=7.1.0&lang=pick]. Just to be sure, one would expect the respective download pages on the various language pages would themselves determine automatically the right version (either Win, Linux (rpm, deb) or Mac) on landing on these download pages? Let's not forget that this page also needs a more effective "Donate" link, so that return users are gently prodded for donations. I especially like the new donate link on the TDF blog, which in my opinion is one of the best we have had. [https://blog.documentfoundation.org/]. [libreoffice-website] Re: Making LibOCon2012-Site static - Current Status
Hi Andreas, Le 03/10/15 05:19 PM, Andreas Mantke a écrit : Hello, I worked on a solution to make the LibOCon2012-Site (and later the 2013 site) static. I managed already to export the site to a folder. If I put that into the folder of the Apache webserver I can view the conference sites. In some cases the links need some edits because there is a html-site and a folder with the same naming inside the folder. I get 403 errors if I don't edit the links and add an explicit '.html' to the link. There is a minor issue with the footer of the website. This could be solved by copying the html footer to all created html pages. It would be great if someone would second me with a shell script to make that happen. That could also help with the language selector and the login link. Both could be deleted from the html source code. Regards, Andreas I am a little confused about this. Events have been updated again with some newer upcoming events. Old events removed. We have enough to publish about 5 events on the Events page. If we could increase the number of events on the Silverstripe "Events" page, we could then advertise more community events. Having 3 events scrolling, IMO, does not seem to be enough for a group of our size and stature. BTW ... not sure if this is a bug with SilverStripe... I had uploaded a .png file in the "File" section, but later uploaded a newer version of the same name file (overwriting the older file) ... but in Silverstripe, the new image thumbprint did not update to the new image -- it would be nice when an image file is overwritten that the thumprint be updated at the same time. Also, in SilverStripe ... when I then went back to the "Pages" section and "Events" ... the "Draft" view did not update to the new .png image file that was now being used, although, the published version on our website is showing correctly the new version. Both of these have to do with uploading and overwriting a file of the same name. Not sure if anything can be done of this. To Log into the Donate site: * I am not sure if you have access to the donate site -- perhaps someone here could let you know or set you up with the access permissions Accessing Photo Shuffler * once on your donate site, make sure the language is in Italian, if not in Italian, then go to the "Translations" tab and choose Italian (Italy) * then choose the "Photo Shuffler" tab * choose the "+ Add Image Resource" button * an "Add image Resources" window will pop up * here you will have the option to upload or to just add images already uploaded (these are the ones that are now being used on most of the donate photo shufflers) Adding Existing Images * to use some of the already uploaded images, choose the greyed out "Choose existing tab" * in the drop down menu choose "assets/PhotoShufflerImages/ * you will then see all of the photo collections now being used in the other photo shufflers * tag the ones you want (there are small buttons that allow you to tag all of them or untag them all) * once your images have been tagged, choose the small button "import" * then, choose "Continue" * you will be then given a chance to add a title and a caption to each image you imported * once done, choose "Finish" * SilverStripe will then add the photos you imported into the photo shuffler Adding New Images * note that IF you are uploading images, let us know on this mailinglist, as some other teams may also want to post some of these new photos on their own photo shufflers. This would be a good time to upload LibreOffice Italian community event photos if the Italian team has any they want to have in their photo shuffler. You can always upload them later * follow the steps to add these images to the photo shuffler as already detailed above Checking on your Photo Shuffler * to see the results in action, click on "Draft Site" (bottom left-hand side of the screen where it says "Page view:" * make sure these are the images you want on the photo shuffler, if not, just go back to the photo shuffler tab and if you want to remove some of the images, then just rest your mouse cursor over the image you want to remove and click on the trash can that appears (the image you are removing will not delete the original image location from where it was imported) * once done, do the usual, "Save" and then "Request Publication" OR if you have the rights, "Save and Publish" which does both at the same time To Log out of SylverStripe * the log out button is on the bottom righ-hand corner of the screen Let me know if you any more help. No, I guess you have something in mind that is incorrect. (read later) Is it possible to increase the upload memory size upload for wiki users who need the larger memory size? It's not about upload, it's about processing the image with a tool to create a smaller image (hence a thumb) for displaying it withing the wiki. The bottom line though is that the images is still there as a link, but not visible on the wiki. So if anyone needs to use it, they can still download it -- in the size it was created. Well not if the images is not created... (as in this case) It would be nice though if there were a fix for this. :-) Our situation: Our actual server configuration allows up to 500MB! (RAM, not HDD space). And this seems not to be enough. Somehow understandable. This is a feature: get a few independent users (in good faith, in bad faith, doesn't matter) uploading similar big images at the same time... (so a special kind of DDOS attack somehow) Guess there are more pages on that server at the moment... So here is my proposal: Let the image as it is. Upload big images if you want. If you do want to upload again big images. Do it. Additional: shrink the image locally to a smaller one (still big, but much smaller!) and upload it to an additional location (so e.G. File:Banner_big.png and File:Banner_small.png) and link each on the file description page. At the moment the whole big image is downloaded as the server is unable to shrink it. The person who needs the biggest ones are still able to download it. Thanks for the help! You're welcome. Marc Dennis (offline for the next at least 3 days!) Thanks! Will do as you suggested. [libreoffice-website] Re: Wiki: Standardizing event pages + Adding structured data
Hi Robinson, Le 20/02/14 02:32 PM, Robinson Tryon a écrit : The primary Events page is ever-expanding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Events I think that it might be a good time for us to split it up by year and have: Events/2013 Events/2014 etc... At the same time, I think it would be helpful for us to standardize the naming of the event pages, e.g.: Events/2014/FOSDEM Events/2014/OSCON Events/2013/North_Pole_Hackfest etc.. Structured data on each event page could further simplify the process of adding and updating individual events. Right now we use the Template:Infobox_Events on many of our event pages to provide information about each event (kudos to Dennis Roczek for his work there). By leveraging structured data fields for the event pages, we could populate the yearly pages by querying this structured data. We could also automatically-update the list of Upcoming Events on the front page of the wiki, and give a prominent shout-out on the wiki front page to any events which are currently underway. I'll need to do a little research, but my understanding is that structured data on the wiki may be easily consumed both within and without the wiki, so that would open up some possibilities for people to present the event data (or other data we decide to structure) in new and exciting ways. Thoughts? Best, --R Anything to make the page as easily update-able as possible. Where we fail at getting our events on the page is the ease of which events are able to be updated. If there is a way for people to just input into fixed fields and to worry about wiki text, then we will probably see more people participating in updating the events page. But yes to reorganizing the page sound good. Hi Florian and Christian, Le 2014-01-27 04:25, Florian Effenberger a écrit : Hello, thanks for the report, and sorry for those inconveniences. Cloph had a chance in the meantime to have a look, and strangely, during that period, the load on the machine is rather normal (~2), but Apache ceases working out of no reason. We wanted to migrate the main site to another machine last week already, but as it tourned out to have likewise load problems, we decided to go for nginx, which we hopefully can finish tomorrow - then, if our assumption is right, the problems should vanish. [libreoffice-website] Re: Website Redesign - Beta
Hi Charles, Le 2014-01-21 04:15, Charles-H. Schulz a écrit : Hello there, I'd like to present you with a beta of the upcoming website -some already saw it, this time, the homepage has been edited, images selected, etc. We miss some integration of text, rss feeds and twitter widgets. The Discover section also received images, and the community section is under heavy work. We are integrating the Download, Donate pages and we need to work on the Events Page as well. http://newdesign.libreoffice.org Feedback -other than details that were already specified in the specs- welcome! Best, Congrats to all involved and especially to Eleonora! Looks good! Nice! Some of my comments: * Love the menu arrangements * I would double the "Templates and Extensions" from the "DISCOVER" menu and place it in the "Download" sub-menu as some users visiting the site will automatically seek it out there. There is no need to make them search for these on the other menus. I would put it under "Development Versions" ** note that "Development versions" should be "Development Versions" * IMO, the "Get Help" section should follow some kind of rational thought something like the user should exhaust all avenues of self-help before going on to any other type of help. So, IMO, the "Get Help" should then follow the following rationale for the sub-menu lines: GET HELP * System Requirements * Installation Instructions * Documentation * Nabble Forums <-- I would include the word "Forums" * Community Support * Professional Support * Accessibility * Feedback * Bug Submission Assistant * IMO "COMMUNITY" section, I would re-organize it to reflect our communities, but in alphabetical order so as not to show any preference order, Then it becomes obvious to our visitor that we are all inclusive and not focused on one particular group. We could still focus on one group internally, but just not make it obvious on our website. The last 3 menu items would be the pads, OwnCloud, Wiki but also in alphabetical order. So, IMO, the re-organization of sub-menu items would look like this: COMMUNITY * Docs Team * Get Involved * Developers * Design * Infrastructure * Localization * Marketing * Native-Lang Projects * Testing - QA --spacer -- Pads OwnCloud Wiki * Event -- if I understand from our previous discussion on this, you are looking at more of an list with icons of events in date order, then a link to our Google Calendar? It is also a shame that the "EVENTS" menu takes up its own space on the main menu line. If we wanted to conserve space it could very well be placed under "COMMUNITY" at the bottom of the menu list. I am not sure that the events page will warrant enough clicks to give it such a prominent spot, but it fits quite well under "COMMUNITY" * ABOUT US -- is a strange beast as it seems to speak to the same as "COMMUNITY", but I guess the idea is that this is more of a wholistic view of the TDF. I wonder if this is really the right site to put "Governance of the TDF" part. But the bottom section "The LibreOffice Project" should be in the "ABOUT US" Perhaps, as a suggeston reverse the paragraphs and use "The LibreOffice Project" as the intro paragraph to the "The Document Foundation" section. This to me would seem more rational seeing as we are on the LibreOffice site and not on The Document Foundation site. ** note that there should be a capital "P" on "The LibreOffice Project". ** note that in that paragraph: "... community as well as by the Document Foundation bodies ..." should be "... as by The Document Foundation bodies ..." ** Certification .. when you click on this item, it leads to the certification page. I would re-title this page to "LibreOffice Certification" just to make it crystal clear that this is what we are reading. Otherwise, it reads as it people are getting TDF Certification or are people getting "TDF Certification"? * Home page ** On my 24inch monitor with 1400x1050, the text and carousel are quite large. It would be nice if the final product could get the part below the carousel to show on the screen along with the carousel ... I guess this would mean reducing the size of the carousel images to allow the "Fee Office Suite" "Fun Project" and "Fantastic People" to appear on the same screen. This will also allow for less "up and down" scrolling by the user. ** I wonder if there could be a way to stop the carousel? There is no way to leave the LibreOffice site on a screen and have it remain static. The scrolling speed also seems to be too quick. Overall, great job at redesign. Like it! Hi Florian Le 2014-01-15 05:46, Florian Effenberger a écrit : Hello, we received the following report: I opened page, http://www.libreoffice.org/features/templates/ on libreoffice site. But picture on right side of page (http://www.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/EN-Project_images/400x300/Template/Screenshot-02.png) is not opening/loading. It says Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. Can someone have a look? FYI, I have also filed this in Redmine as https://intranet.documentfoundation.org/redmine/issues/63 to make a real-life test drive of the ticketing. :-) Feel free to edit that bug if you see fit. Florian I see that this has now been fixed, but wonder why we are not using "PhotShuffler" on these images. I think it would be a lot better than to send our site guests to an extra page and force them to move back to the same page after seeing the image. The popup PhotoShuffler window looks a lot more modern and keeps the guest on the same webpage.
