Thanks for the link. And yes, no use in shrinking issuance on these
extra tlds. They are still redirecting properly to the right sites.

[libreoffice-website] Certificate Issue with "TheDocumentFoundation.com"

2021-05-04 Thread Marc Paré
There seems to be a certificate issue with FireFox accessing
"https://www.thedocumentfoundation.com"; site. It is having issues with
the certificate and issuing a warning. Is anyone getting this? If so,
could someone find a fix for the issue?

Using Google Chrome and Chromium are also giving out the certificate
warning.

Perhaps all of the TDF and LibreOffice owned domains should be checked
to make sure they are not throwing certificate warnings by using the
"https" protocols.

[libreoffice-website] "Necesita otro idioma" link is broken on ES Download page

2021-02-03 Thread Marc Paré
FYI, the "Necesita otro idioma" link on the Spanish page
[https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=rpm-x86_64&version=7.1.0&lang=es]
is broken and leads to nowhere. It should lead to the languages page
here
[https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=rpm-x86_64&version=7.1.0&lang=pick].

Just to be sure, one would expect the respective download pages on the
various language pages would themselves determine automatically the
right version (either Win, Linux (rpm, deb) or Mac) on landing on these
download pages? Is this correct?

Hi all,

The download page is getting cramped as you mention. Let's not forget
that this page also needs a more effective "Donate" link, so that return
users are gently prodded for donations. I especially like the new donate
link on the TDF blog, which in my opinion is one of the best we have
had.  [https://blog.documentfoundation.org/]. Perhaps the new design
will find a way to incorporate it on this particular page given that we
usually have thousands visiting the downloads page to update their
version of LibreOffice.

Cheers,

Hi Llamari,

I tried out the drop-down menus, however, if a user clicks on "Module"
and changes his mind, then one would usually click anywhere on the page
to remove the drop-down list. However, the list remains open
(dropped-down) on the screen. The same happens with "Language". You can
even have both of the menus open and not retract as per usual by
clicking anywhere on the page.

IMO, it would be nice if the behaviour followed the same as the main
website drop-down menus. Just to add consistency and also for the sake
of anyone of our users who may have accessibility issues.

Just as a side-note to this, some Linux distributions are using (as in
my case with Mageia Linux) Firefox v.68.70esr. I am not sure if the
Firefox devs will be patching their LTS versions so that these not cause
any issues. Do you know if this has also been considered?

+1 ... a great idea! and agree to not make use of a drop-down menu.

Note that on my phone, as example, if I use it in portrait mode, the
following language choices do not show "Italiano | More ...|" Then some
people will still be unaware of the other various nlc pages.

IMO, it may just be best to have something like "Choose Other Language"
which leads to the https://www.libreoffice.org/community/nlc page.
Making sure that the single button is not flush-right to the edge of the
page, otherwise, it would be lost again in portrait mode.

This problem is not there in landscape more of course.

Now that is funny!

Some time ago, my mother called me to say that each time she used her
computer, that some woman was watching her at her keyboard and she came
back each time she rebooted the computer. She was so freaked out that
she refused to use her computer.  I was so worried about this that I
drove up to her place, a 6 hour drive, to see what was happening. When I
checked her computer, she had the Linux software "Cheese" open and set
to video. So she was actually watching herself on her computer. She
thought it was hilarious!

She turns 87 years of age in November and has been using Linux for about
15 years.

The Chrome window rendered the word "built" at a different spot, which
is why it rendered correctly.

Hmmm, that is strange. When I do a screen capture it captures the image
with the correct spelling. Here is a photo taken of the page but taken
from my phone, where it shows the spelling error. -- on Firefox
68.1.0esr (64bits)

http://parentreprise.com/images/LibreOffice/LibreOffice-Download-Screenshot-SpellingError-buiit-in-help-2.jpg

II just tried the same page on Chrome 78.0.3904.70 (64 bits) and the
page is rendered correctly.

I then looks like it is an issue specifically with Firefox. Not sure why
it is rendered correctly when I do my screen capture though. -- Screen
capture software is Spectacle 19.04.0

I wonder if Firefox would then misinterpret the spelling on other pages
then.

[libreoffice-website] LibreOffice Conference NL sites -- errors

2019-07-17 Thread Marc Paré
I notice that, if I wanted to see the LibreOffice conference site in
Spanish, that if I go to https://es.conference.libreoffice.org/default/
it first of all does not validate as an https site, and then take people
to a very old LibreOffice 4.2 site. If I do the same for the French
conference site at https://fr.conference.libreoffice.org/default/, or
the Italian conference site at
https://it.conference.libreoffice.org/default/ the same occurs to these
or the German conference site at
https://de.conference.libreoffice.org/default/. I suspect the same would
occur to all of the other NL sites.

Is there a way to fix these? At the very least these should all lead to
the English LibreOffice conference site by default then.

Thanks it worked.

Do you know if this can be fixed. It would be a shame to have some
people give up on the registration process if they are accessing the
conference site through any of the LiboCon site. For example, I also
have the libocon.ca domain pointing also to the
https://conference.libreoffice.org/2019/registration-form/ page, so
presumably, the same issue would exist for that domain as well. The
libocon domain name is easier to remember than the conference site.

interim, a notice should go out to all of the mailing lists to let them
know that GMane is down for now and is looking for a way to survive. It
has been subjected to massive ddos attacks and it looks like the GMane
owner is looking to close the service down permanently or give it away

Does anyone know of any other NNTP service for LibreOffice lists?

FYI, I am reading and sending this note from my GMane. It looks like it

but, when I click on the button, it does take me to the download of
version 5.1.0.0beta2 (*** NOTE that is now says beta2)

For some reason, the download page of the development version is picking
up the wrong name of the beta1 where it should really be saying beta2.

I logged in as admin but could not find how to fix this issue.

If someone points me in the right direction on how to fix this for next

[libreoffice-website] Re: Finished Converting LIbOCon2012 Website To Static HTML

Hi Andreas,

Hello,

I finished my work on a static version of the LibOCon2012 website. I got
everything into one folder with subfolders and works on my local
webserver directory.

I wonder to which subfolder I should upload my work. Should I create a
subfolder inside the Plone LibO conference directory and name it 2012
(later the 2013 could get to another subfolder: 2013)?

Regards,
Andreas

Would it make more sense to have it on the same server sub/folder as the
other LibOCons? At least they would all be on the same server.

What do you think? Should we turn off that feature by default? At

Samuel now too and I guess Florian also.

The ticket in question is at:

sites. In some cases the links need some edits because there is a
html-site and a folder with the same naming inside the folder. I get 403
errors if I don't edit the links and add an explicit '.html' to the link.

There is a minor issue with the footer of the website. This could be
solved by copying the html footer to all created html pages. It would be
great if someone would second me with a shell script to make that happen.

That could also help with the language selector and the login link. Both
could be deleted from the html source code.

Thanks, will do.

Events have been updated again with some newer upcoming events. Old
events removed.

We have enough to publish about 5 events on the Events page. If we could
increase the number of events on the Silverstripe "Events" page, we
could then advertise more community events. Having 3 events scrolling,
IMO, does not seem to be enough for a group of our size and stature.

BTW ... not sure if this is a bug with SilverStripe... I had uploaded a
.png file in the "File" section, but later uploaded a newer version of
the same name file (overwriting the older file) ... but in Silverstripe,
the new image thumbprint did not update to the new image -- it would be
nice when an image file is overwritten that the thumprint be updated at
the same time.

Also, in SilverStripe ... when I then went back to the "Pages" section
and "Events" ... the "Draft" view did not update to the new .png image
file that was now being used, although, the published version on our
website is showing correctly the new version.

Both of these have to do with uploading and overwriting a file of the
same name. Not sure if anything can be done of this.

[libreoffice-website] Re: Donate photo slides not working?

Hello Marc,
I'd like to fix the italian donation page, could you tell me how to edit
that?
Is there a login page different from the one used to edit the rest of
the website?
Thank you :)

It looks like the Italian "Photo Shuffler" was never set up on the
Italian donate site.

To Log into the Donate site:
* I am not sure if you have access to the donate site -- perhaps someone
here could let you know or set you up with the access permissions

Accessing Photo Shuffler
* once on your donate site, make sure the language is in Italian, if not
in Italian, then go to the "Translations" tab and choose Italian (Italy)

* then choose the "Photo Shuffler" tab
* choose the "+ Add Image Resource" button
* an "Add image Resources" window will pop up
* here you will have the option to upload or to just add images already
uploaded (these are the ones that are now being used on most of the
donate photo shufflers)

Adding Existing Images
* to use some of the already uploaded images, choose the greyed out
"Choose existing tab"

* in the drop down menu choose "assets/PhotoShufflerImages/
* you will then see all of the photo collections now being used in the
other photo shufflers
* tag the ones you want (there are small buttons that allow you to tag
all of them or untag them all)

* once your images have been tagged, choose the small button "import"
* then, choose "Continue"
* you will be then given a chance to add a title and a caption to each
image you imported

* once done, choose "Finish"
* SilverStripe will then add the photos you imported into the photo shuffler

Adding New Images
* note that IF you are uploading images, let us know on this
mailinglist, as some other teams may also want to post some of these new
photos on their own photo shufflers. This would be a good time to upload
LibreOffice Italian community event photos if the Italian team has any
they want to have in their photo shuffler. You can always upload them later
* follow the steps to add these images to the photo shuffler as already
detailed above

Checking on your Photo Shuffler
* to see the results in action, click on "Draft Site" (bottom left-hand
side of the screen where it says "Page view:"
* make sure these are the images you want on the photo shuffler, if not,
just go back to the photo shuffler tab and if you want to remove some of
the images, then just rest your mouse cursor over the image you want to
remove and click on the trash can that appears (the image you are
removing will not delete the original image location from where it was
imported)

* once done, do the usual, "Save" and then "Request Publication" OR if
you have the rights, "Save and Publish" which does both at the same time

To Log out of SylverStripe
* the log out button is on the bottom righ-hand corner of the screen

Let me know if you any more help.

Cheers,

Marc

This would mean that we would have to tailor our working tools (in this
case, the banner image), not because it is the size we want, but because
of the size our wiki allow us to upload.

No, I guess you have something in mind that is incorrect. (read later)

Is it possible to increase the upload memory size upload for wiki users
who need the larger memory size?

It's not about upload, it's about processing the image with a tool to
create a smaller image (hence a thumb) for displaying it withing the wiki.

The bottom line though is that the images is still there as a link, but
not visible on the wiki. So if anyone needs to use it, they can still
download it -- in the size it was created.

Well not if the images is not created... (as in this case)

It would be nice though if there were a fix for this. :-)

Our situation:
Our actual server configuration allows up to 500MB! (RAM, not HDD
space). And this seems not to be enough. Somehow understandable. This is
a feature: get a few independent users (in good faith, in bad faith,
doesn't matter) uploading similar big images at the same time... (so a
special kind of DDOS attack somehow) Guess there are more pages on that
server at the moment...

So here is my proposal:
Let the image as it is. Upload big images if you want. If you do want to
upload again big images. Do it.

Additional: shrink the image locally to a smaller one (still big, but
much smaller!) and upload it to an additional location (so e.G.
File:Banner_big.png and File:Banner_small.png) and link each on the file
description page. At the moment the whole big image is downloaded as the
server is unable to shrink it.

The person who needs the biggest ones are still able to download it.

Thanks for the help!

You're welcome.

ok, good point.
Updating the list footers is a rather tedious task, with manually
updating several lists and getting translations in place.
If we do that, we should revisit the current text completely, so in case
other pending changes are planned, we can factor these in already.

Is that something you could drive forward, including the moderators
list, so we can have a look at the task after LibOCon maybe?

Thanks!
Florian

Sure, I'll bring it up after LibOCon.

thanks for the suggestion!
I wonder if it doesn't make sense to simply add this to the Netiquette
page with some hint, to avoid a zillion of links in the signatures.
However, I'm no sure if that catches people's attention immediately...

Florian

I don't believe people will take the time to read the Netiquette if
there are many links for bug reporting. Most would want to contribute a
bug related to their particular mailing list (I am speaking mostly of
the "contributor mailing lists" such as website, marketing, design,
documentation etc ... and not of the user/discussion mailinglists)

There would only be one line added to each of the mailing list. For
example:

the "Website list" makes use of the Bugzilla for bug submissions so the
website mailinglist signature would look like this:

--

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/

Report website related bugs: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org//

It looks like the marketing team is now using redmine for its
"bugs/tasks", the the marketing mailing list signature would look like
this:

Report marketing related bugs:
https://redmine.documentfoundation.org/projects/marketing/issues
All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be
deleted

... and so on for all of the other working mailing lists where
contributing members issue their official bugs/tasks. This way, we would
always be well informed of the bug/task tools used by different teams.

BTW ... it now looks like the design team is now back to using the
mailing list and the Redmine is pretty well abandonned, It looks like
the only group using Redmine is Marketing and possibly VI Design (KJ --
is our largest contributor for VI Design).

I would suggest that for the users and discuss list we add only the
Bugzilla as that extra line in the signature.

But, if we are to use more than one tool for bug reporting, IMO, better
for everyone if there was a mention of where to report bugs in the
signature.

Cheers,

Marc

[libreoffice-website] Native Lang. Donate pages photo-shuffler

2015-09-03 Thread Marc Paré
I just fixed the FR donate page photo-shuffler and notice now that most
of the other native lang. donate page photo-shuffler images are broken.

Could someone check to see what happened with the links in Silverstripe
that caused this? Perhaps the folder holding the images was moved by
mistake and broke the links (although this does not seem like it). From
what I can tell, the EN, FR, ES shufflers are OK

Otherwise, the other native lang. teams will have to go back and rebuild
their photo-shuffler images on those pages.

note on this mailing list and I will post it on our events calendar[1].
Alternatively, you can email me to let me know, but best if you just

* Note that if you are taking part in an event, could you also list it

It is good PR to show how active a community we are at events.

In Silverstripe, you need to fill in the "Main image" on the

In this case the EN version is using "discover_2.jpg"

At first glance, the first thing I can see that needs improvement is the

there's no real rule of thumb - the more, the merrier, of course.
However, I didn't hear real complaints about download speed (with some

urgent need to have more. The speed and connectivity does not only
depend on geography, but mostly network topology, which can be a bit
different due to peerings and routings.

But, as said, if we can get more, of course, that's a lot appreciated!

[libreoffice-website] List of Canadian servers

How would I go about finding the list of servers mirroring LibreOffice?

I am going to work on getting more Canadian coverage depending on how

Thanks for the help.

2014-11-23 Thread Marc Paré
I just wanted to say thanks and congrats to all who worked on the 2015
conference logo ... it looks great!

Plus, the list of conference on the menu line looks impressive!

I am just wondering, just for the sake of consistency, why are the Milan
and Berlin links not the same as the others? Was this done just by
mistake? If you click on each conference link the Milan and Berlin pages
look dramatically different from the others.

Now that our next LibreOffice conference has been confirmed as Aarhus,
Denmark, from September 23 to September 25, 2015, should we start

The design of a new conference logo would be needed for the page?

It's just that the conference site has been announced and the members of
the public going to the LibOCon.org site only see the Bern conference

I have noticed a slowdown on community events, but if different
communities sent in some photos of event (the BR group do this so well),
then, I would imagine, this would give us more of our stock photos to
choose from.

IMO, we should not only show photos representative of where LibreOffice

would be a sign of encouragement from the LibreOffice organization.

Hmm.. perhaps the word "stable" is problematic in this situation. If
we call the branch with less churn 'stable,' that does imply something
about the stability of other branches that are under more active
development.

That is what I think too. While Stable gets the right message in a
comparison with "Fresh", the second message it sends might indeed be
that if this one's stable the other one is not.
I∕we welcome other terms, by the way. I thought about "mature"

I completely agree with Charles in that identifying our second option
for download as "LibreOffice Stable" in that "stable" does indeed seem
to signify our first choice as being "unstable". "LibreOffice Mature"
does seem to have a nice ring to it, plus it does convey the obvious
fact of that particular version's state at which it finds itself.

BTW ... "LibreOffice Fresh" is, IMO, an excellent pick in name, to the
point where I would suggest it is easily marketable as a possible brand
name if we wanted to do so; let's not change that particular name.

Not sure what it will be on the new site. I don't think I'll reinstall
the forum module just for this. Probably I'll just have people request

weren't that many requests for editing privileges, and to get them

Thanks for not reinstalling the old module. Many of the people who were

Just FYI, I was going to look at moving the Google calendar to the our

[libreoffice-website] Re: Wiki: Standardizing event pages + Adding structured data

2014-02-20 Thread Marc Paré

Hi Robinson,

Le 20/02/14 02:32 PM, Robinson Tryon a écrit :

The primary Events page is ever-expanding:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Events

I think that it might be a good time for us to split it up by year and have:
Events/2013
Events/2014
etc...

At the same time, I think it would be helpful for us to standardize
the naming of the event pages, e.g.:

Events/2014/FOSDEM
Events/2014/OSCON
Events/2013/North_Pole_Hackfest
etc..

Structured data on each event page could further simplify the process
of adding and updating individual events. Right now we use the
Template:Infobox_Events on many of our event pages to provide
information about each event (kudos to Dennis Roczek for his work
there). By leveraging structured data fields for the event pages, we
could populate the yearly pages by querying this structured data. We
could also automatically-update the list of Upcoming Events on the
front page of the wiki, and give a prominent shout-out on the wiki
front page to any events which are currently underway.

I'll need to do a little research, but my understanding is that
structured data on the wiki may be easily consumed both within and
without the wiki, so that would open up some possibilities for people
to present the event data (or other data we decide to structure) in
new and exciting ways.

Thoughts?

Best,
--R

Anything to make the page as easily update-able as possible. Where we
fail at getting our events on the page is the ease of which events are
able to be updated. If there is a way for people to just input into
fixed fields and to worry about wiki text, then we will probably see
more people participating in updating the events page.

But yes to reorganizing the page sound good.

Cheers,

Marc

Hello there,

I'd like to present you with a beta of the upcoming website -some
already saw it, this time, the homepage has been edited, images
selected, etc. We miss some integration of text, rss feeds and twitter
widgets. The Discover section also received images, and the community
section is under heavy work. We are integrating the Download, Donate
pages and we need to work on the Events Page as well.

http://newdesign.libreoffice.org

Feedback -other than details that were already specified in the specs-
welcome!

Best,

Congrats to all involved and especially to Eleonora! Looks good! Nice!

Some of my comments:

* Love the menu arrangements

* I would double the "Templates and Extensions" from the "DISCOVER" menu
and place it in the "Download" sub-menu as some users visiting the site
will automatically seek it out there. There is no need to make them
search for these on the other menus. I would put it under "Development
Versions"

** note that "Development versions" should be "Development Versions"

* IMO, the "Get Help" section should follow some kind of rational
thought something like the user should exhaust all avenues of self-help
before going on to any other type of help. So, IMO, the "Get Help"
should then follow the following rationale for the sub-menu lines:

GET HELP
* System Requirements
* Installation Instructions
* Documentation
* Nabble Forums <-- I would include the word "Forums"
* Community Support
* Professional Support
* Accessibility
* Feedback
* Bug Submission Assistant

* IMO "COMMUNITY" section, I would re-organize it to reflect our
communities, but in alphabetical order so as not to show any preference
order, Then it becomes obvious to our visitor that we are all inclusive
and not focused on one particular group. We could still focus on one
group internally, but just not make it obvious on our website. The last
3 menu items would be the pads, OwnCloud, Wiki but also in alphabetical
order.

So, IMO, the re-organization of sub-menu items would look like this:

COMMUNITY
* Docs Team
* Get Involved
* Developers
* Design
* Infrastructure
* Localization
* Marketing
* Native-Lang Projects
* Testing - QA
--spacer --
Pads
OwnCloud
Wiki

* Event -- if I understand from our previous discussion on this, you are
looking at more of an list with icons of events in date order, then a
link to our Google Calendar? It is also a shame that the "EVENTS" menu
takes up its own space on the main menu line. If we wanted to conserve
space it could very well be placed under "COMMUNITY" at the bottom of
the menu list. I am not sure that the events page will warrant enough
clicks to give it such a prominent spot, but it fits quite well under
"COMMUNITY"

* ABOUT US -- is a strange beast as it seems to speak to the same as
"COMMUNITY", but I guess the idea is that this is more of a wholistic
view of the TDF. I wonder if this is really the right site to put
"Governance of the TDF" part. But the bottom section "The LibreOffice
Project" should be in the "ABOUT US" Perhaps, as a suggeston reverse the
paragraphs and use "The LibreOffice Project" as the intro paragraph to
the "The Document Foundation" section. This to me would seem more
rational seeing as we are on the LibreOffice site and not on The
Document Foundation site.

** note that there should be a capital "P" on "The LibreOffice Project".
** note that in that paragraph: "... community as well as by the
Document Foundation bodies ..." should be "... as by The Document
Foundation bodies ..."

** Certification .. when you click on this item, it leads to the
certification page. I would re-title this page to "LibreOffice
Certification" just to make it crystal clear that this is what we are
reading. Otherwise, it reads as it people are getting TDF Certification
or are people getting "TDF Certification"?

* Home page
** On my 24inch monitor with 1400x1050, the text and carousel are quite
large. It would be nice if the final product could get the part below
the carousel to show on the screen along with the carousel ... I guess
this would mean reducing the size of the carousel images to allow the
"Fee Office Suite" "Fun Project" and "Fantastic People" to appear on the
same screen. This will also allow for less "up and down" scrolling by
the user.
** I wonder if there could be a way to stop the carousel? There is no
way to leave the LibreOffice site on a screen and have it remain static.
The scrolling speed also seems to be too quick.

Overall, great job at redesign. Like it!

Cheers,

Marc--

Hello,

we received the following report:

I opened page, http://www.libreoffice.org/features/templates/ on
libreoffice site. But picture on right side of page
(http://www.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/EN-Project_images/400x300/Template/Screenshot-02.png)
is not opening/loading. It says
Access forbidden!
You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either
read-protected or not readable by the server.

Can someone have a look? FYI, I have also filed this in Redmine as

https://intranet.documentfoundation.org/redmine/issues/63

to make a real-life test drive of the ticketing. :-) Feel free to edit
that bug if you see fit.

Florian

I see that this has now been fixed, but wonder why we are not using
"PhotShuffler" on these images. I think it would be a lot better than to
send our site guests to an extra page and force them to move back to the
same page after seeing the image.

The popup PhotoShuffler window looks a lot more modern and keeps the
guest on the same webpage.

Cheers,

Marc

[libreoffice-website] Re: Formatting issue on /developers page

Hello,

On page http://www.libreoffice.org/developers/, the text in the bottom
half of the page is in "code" format. The problem starts in the "Build
and Run It" section.

On investigation, this appears to be due to the HTML tag "" on
line 81 of the page's source. I think it is being interpreted as an
unpaired "" tag.

I am using Firefox 24.0 on Windows 7.

I hope this is the right mailing list for this issue; apologies if not.

Regards,
Alex

We normally issue a bug for stuff like this, but this works too!

Fixed. Let me know if there is anything wrong with the page.

I added your proposals to the forms. They are online now (templates and
extensions website).

The page works well on my Mageia Linux Chromium (ver. 30.0.1599.66)

Great to hear.

Thanks for all of the work you do on the extensions sites and
everything else too! It is really appreciated.

Thank you for your kind words.

Cheers,
Andreas

Just one more suggestion:

* "Please keep from 50 to 1,000 characters" maybe should read "Please
keep between 50 to 1,000 characters."

Cheers,

Marc
