[weewx-user] Re: Update of rain data to wunderground

2019-08-15 Thread kar ss
Hi Gray,

I tried to run Weewx directly during a rain event and this also did not
help, the rain data gets updated to wunderground only at 5 minutes
interval. But I made one observation, both the weewx seasons report and the
the rain data in wunderground gets updated exactly at the same time. Not
sure whether there is any link to this. May be someone can throw some light.

Thanks
SS

[weewx-user] Re: Update of rain data to wunderground

2019-08-15 Thread gjr80
The point of running Weewx directly was to see the loop and archive data that
Weewx is processing and you can then reconcile this against what is appearing
on WU. If you set debug=2 you will see the data posted to WU on the log. This
was never going to fix anything, rathet if will provoke a complete picture of
what data is being received/processed by WeeWX and posted to WU.

Suggest you set debug=2 if not already done, restart WeeWX and post a log
extract covering a good 2 to 3 archive intervals. A sanitised copy of
weewx.conf would help too. You can use wee_debug for this just check the output
before posting.

[weewx-user] Historic Image Generator Time Periods

2019-08-15 Thread Copain
Standard 4 image generator time periods are day, week, month and year.

Does weewx offer functionality to generate graphs e.g. for yesterday, last
year or a specific historic month / year
OR is it depending on the skin which would have to offer such feature?

Basically, I am looking for an 'optional_ago' tag for graphs.

Is there any experience / solution with historic graphs additional to the 4
standard ones in bootstrap skin?

Many thanks for your comments.

[weewx-user] Wrong rain numbers on Weather Underground

2019-08-15 Thread Manfred Maier
Hi,
I have a Davis Vantage Pro2 with a metric rain collector (0.2mm). My weewx
database is in 'US' - all my reports are in 'Metric'.

Today we had 1.6mm of rain (= 8 'ticks' of my rain collector). All my
reports show the correct total amount of rain (e.g. website, AWEKAS).
But Weather Underground only displays 1.5mm. I've also seen that the
individual 'ticks' of my rain collector are counted as 0.25mm. Weather
Underground obviously uses 0.1inch in the background.

Is there something I could do to fix this?
Or is this just the way Weather Underground manages metric PWSs?

Thanks!
Manfred

[weewx-user] Wrong rain numbers on Weather Underground

2019-08-15 Thread gjr80
Hi,

The units used in your database and reports are irrelevant when it comes to WU.
Provided WeeWX was properly installed and your station is correctly configured
for the rain collector size you are using everything should just work. The best
way to troubleshoot most WU upload issues is to set debug=2 in weewx.conf and
then restart WeeWX. WeeWX will now log the data being uploaded to WU. You can
now compare the logged data with the archive records being stored by WeeWX or,
if you are using WU rapid fire, you can run WeeWX directly
(http://weewx.com/docs/usersguide.htm#Running_directly) to capture the loop
data being seen by WeeWX to compare with the RF uploads. Of course in your case
you will need to do this when it is raining (you could manually tip your gauge
but that will irreversibly pollute your WU data - unless you disconnect WeeWX
from the internet)

[weewx-user] Acurite Atlas - I switched --> Ambient Weather WS-1550-IP

2019-08-15 Thread Xant

My previous Acurite 5x1 died sometime ago due to age and exposure, then
Acurite Atlas as a replacement which also provides UV.

I previously had an issue with Acurite, as they required their connection
module to be changed, from Hub to Access. Sure, technology evolves and the
Hub not just to be put in tech trash pile, but the service would cease.
Acurite provided a discount for a period of time, but as I need another
Access (for relatives), it is now at full price.

Later verified that the new Acurite Atlas UV sensor was not working (which
it seems a common occurrence as posted in related forums), and requested a
replacement which took long to arrive. Meanwhile, besides its flimsy
appearance when compared to the robust Atlas, gave a Ambient Weather
WS-1550-IP a try... and couldn't be happier.

Sure, Davis is the "Cadillac" of the PWS's, but at a price. Ambient weather
provides almost as much info as Davis, and Radiation which is not provided
by Atlas and its cheaper!

Most important for WeeWX users, as much I learned the "sniff" capabilities
of Matt's Interceptor Driver, the process to make it work takes tweak and
time. While Matt's ObserverIP driver is a breeze and working in minutes
(with no need to tweak router, deal with DNS hijack or firewall).

Bottom line: WS-1550-IP - Better money value, more sensors and easier for
WeeWX setup.

Best,
Xant

[weewx-user] Re: Update of rain data to wunderground

2019-08-15 Thread gjr80
Ok, so we can see that WeeWX is indeed sending RF updates to WU many times each
archive period. What we can’t see is any non-zero rain values being sent
(assume this is because it was not raining during the log extract - if it was
raining we have a more fundamental data issue). What you should do now
investigate what happens when it does rain; there are two checks you can do
here. Firstly you can do a gross error check just by looking at the RF entries
for dailyrainin and rainin in the log; are they non-zero? are they sensible, do
they seem to agree with the console? You can also do a more involved detailed
analysis, this time run WeeWX directly while it is raining. Capture the console
output for an archive period or two and then go back and look at the log
entries for the corresponding period. If rainin and dailyrainin agrees with the
loop rain data then the issue is WU. If rainin or dailyrainin does not agree
with the loop data then there is a WeeWX/station issue.

2019-08-15 Thread Pat
Shameless plug for my website running the
Belchertown
skin . It can chart any
timespan you want with some specific ones built in
.

There's a small learning curve to the graphs.conf but it comes with 4
standard graphs, documentation and there's quite a few users on this forum
who can help if you get stuck.

For example, to chart yesterday

 you
would use:

time_length = days_ago
time_ago = 1

Last month would be

time_length = months_ago
time_ago = 1

A specific special day would be

time_length = day_specific
month_specific = 10
day_specific = 31
year_specific = 2017

A specific special month would be

time_length = month_specific
month_specific = 10
year_specific = 2017

and much more. The Belchertown Charts wiki

has a lot of information, and users are often finding more capabilities

Another key feature of Belchertown is the live updates with MQTT Websockets
- but that's optional and not required to run the skin or the graphs.

[weewx-user] Davis Vantage Pro2 Wind Direction Issue

2019-08-15 Thread Peter_F
This may be the wrong forum for this but I have Googled this to death and
no apparent answer.

I have had my Davis Vantage Pro2 for over four years and have had no issues
(Console on my desk and an Envoy with data logger plugged into RPi running
WeeWX). A few weeks ago I noticed on the console that the Wind Direction
was locked onto due south (180 degrees). Wind Speed is working OK. The
Envoy was showing the same on WeeWX. The Console and Envoy have an offset
configured for 180 degrees because the anemometer is pointing South instead
of North because I want the solar panels pointing North as I am in the
Southern Hemisphere.

After checking connections, etc and finding no issues, I bit the bullet and
bought a new anemometer. To my disappointment, the problem persisted with
the new anemometer. I spoke to Davis and they said it must be the
Transmitter Board so I reluctantly purchased a new one from them. I have
installed it and the problem STILL persists. After ringing Davis again,
they tried to blame the Raspberry Pi which makes no sense as the Console is
not connected to the RPi.

Since then I have tried various things - changing Transmitter channel,
Firmware updates, unplugging all other sensors from the ISS - but to no
avail. Very occasionally the Wind Direction does work, but not for very
long. Other knowledgeable people I have spoken to (no knowledge about
Davis Weather Stations though) said it's probably electrical interference.
All the answers I can find is either a busted anemometer or a broken wire.
I have replaced both the anemometer (comes with new cable) and also the
Transmitter. There's not much else to replace.

When I ordered the new anemometer, I gave the old one to a friend who is
interested in building his own Weather Station from discrete sensors and
micro-controllers. He was interested in pulling it apart and possibly
fixing it. He said the anemometer works no problems.

I'm at my wit's end. I have thrown a few hundred AU$ at this and have got
nowhere. To really rub it in, my Envoy decided to die the other day. I
don't have the cash to replace that so I have moved the data logger to the
console and now running WeeWX off that.

Anyone have any ideas?

- Peter
