That could well fit the symptoms. I guess just keep an eye on the logs, any
FTP timeouts etc will show up. Logwatch
 can useful for picking up
out of the ordinary log events and providing you with a daily summary by
email.

Hmm, seems all is still not 100%. Looked at your site at 414pm 7 March and all
was correct (plots and CSS) but then at 416pm the wind vector plot disappeared.
Back at 418 and 420pm. I am at a loss, nothing worse than a variable
intermittent problem to try to troubleshoot.

2018-03-07 Thread Steve2Q
Gary...subtitle "A complete Mystery" I decided to follow your lead and try
to see if my css was not being uploaded to the site. It does appear in the
*/Weather* directory there. I then decided to use the *tail -f
/var/log/syslog *command to see if there were any errors; I saw none. I
then set *debug =1 *and looked at *syslog*; again I did not see any ftp
errors. At this point I still had the stripped webpage. I then decided to
delete the syslog (I don't know why I decided to do this!). I rebooted the
system and now the full web page is back! Maybe there was a hosting error
which resolved just while I was doing my troubleshooting, or maybe it was
gremlins!

Again, thanks to you and Andrew for always being willing to lend a hand.

Judging by the type of errors in the log (timeouts, can't create directory,
unable to build connection) I would be starting with your hosting provider,
maybe there is something in the logs on their side. Seems there is an issue
of some desciption during most report cycles so it should be too hard to
spot. As for the different appearances, when I visted your site just now
the weewx.css file could not be found so that fairly much kills all of your
site formatting leaving you with a very crude text/image layout. Perhaps
some of the browsers/devices may have cached some files so that may be why
some have more 'formatting' than others. But going by the logs (small
random upload failures) I would expect the missing css will shortly be
uploaded.

Interesting that your gauges seem to be working fine (though it is hard to
tell if nothing is chnagign regularly) but the gauges don't use FTP to
upload any files to your host.

I'd blame Trump and his attempts at stopping net equality for all!! Could
be the beginnings of multi-tiered internet!! They have to introduce
'issues' to persuade the populace to cough up readies for 'better' = what
we should have = service .

Andrew is right, the logs are your friend. you might find it useful to run
with debug=1 so you get a bit more details about what (well how many) files
are being generated. Are you ftp'ing or rsync'ing to a remote web server or
hosting locally, if remote it might be worth seeing what is being
ftp'd/rsync'd. If it happens relatively frequently you might need to spend
a bith of time in front of a terminal listing the contents of public_html
(or wherever) on your weeWX machine to see what is being generated after
each cycle.

Unless you are pushing the bounds and your reports are taking nearly as
long to process as your archive period it is unlikely the length of your
archive period is the issue. Perusing your logs and looking at the typical
time taken to generate (and ftp/rsync) all reports/images will give you a
feel for whether this may be a problem.

Be interesting if it is a browser caching issue, seems odd though, as there
appears to have been a number of these issues recently.

2018-03-05 Thread Andrew Milner
A good place to start is by looking at the log!!

Depending on the pc/cpu you are using it is possible the report interval is
too short, and needs to be increased to say 5 minutes.

You could always just try and refresh the page when the plot is 'missing' -
it could just be a delay in your server delivering the image to the browser
