[Bug 62121] New: Collection: credits of images should list only the uploaders

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62121

Bug ID: 62121
Summary: Collection: credits of images should list only the
uploaders
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: REL1_22 branch
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Collection
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: q...@wikimedia.org
CC: developm...@pediapress.com, marcin.cies...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

The PDFs produced by the collection extension include a section with credits
and licenses of the images included.

EXPECTED

The names mentioned there correspond to the users that have uploaded that image
of any previous version in the same page.

ACTUALLY

In addition to the uploaders, all the editors of the page are included as well.
At the end it is impossible to know who uploaded the initial picture and
potential updates, and who simply added a translation or a template. This is a
mis-attribution.

You can test this here:

https://ca.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Usuari:Pere_prlpz/taller2&oldid=12992460

Fitxer:Can Manent Premià de Mar.jpg (...) Contribuïdors: Deosringas, Isidre
blanc, Pere prlpz, Vriullop

Fitxer:L'Amistat Premià de Mar.jpg (...) Contribuïdors: Deosringas, Isidre
blanc, Pere prlpz, Vriullop

In both cases Deosringas is the only uploader.

[Bug 60067] navigation links behaving badly on cross-source links

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60067

Hi,

I looked into it again, and I now believe that the problem occurs when the page
is linked from the index of another work.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1) Go to https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Mrs Beeton's Book of Household
Management (Part 2).djvu/136
2) Click the back arrow to arrive at
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Mrs_Beeton%27s_Book_of_Household_Management_(Part_2).djvu/135
3) Click on the forward (or back, or up) arrow.
4) Notice that you are now, looking at https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Mrs
Beeton's Book of Household Management (Part 1).djvu/136
5) You have moved from Part 2 to Part 1 unexpectedly!

The difference seems to be that /135 is linked via the Table of Contents at
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Index:Mrs._Beeton%27s_Book_of_Household_Management_(Part_1).djvu
, while /136 is not linked. I confirmed this by removing the link, observing
that the forward/back buttons worked as expected, and restoring the link,
observing that the bad behavior returned.

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 62120
Summary: Mobile Front End: When creating a new page in mobile
view, the cursor is hidden behind top navigation.
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: Smartphone
OS: All

Component - Mobile Front End (Couldn't find it in the list)

When creating a new page, the cursor is hidden and blinking behind the main
navigation. So, until you pull the content part of the page down, you can't see
what you're typing.

(Reproduced on iPhone 4 iOS6 and iPhone 4s iOS7)

Image:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62515727/Photo%202014-03-01%208%2048%2003%20PM.png

Steps to reproduce. (Blank install of Master from March 1st, 9pm)

1. Using input box (installed extension) create a new page (Jelly Fish) using
yoru mobile device.

2. When the editor redirects you to creating a page about Jelly Fish, start
typing. The text will be hidden.

The hovering menu is overlapping the top line of text, instead of pushing the
edit field down. When you pull the edit field down, you can see the text, but
it's disorienting for users creating new pages.

The bugzilla links are gone now. I am also updating the pages. They have not
been the primary documentation for some time and are outdated in several ways.
I'll be fixing that.

> Happy to close them in Bugzilla and edit their descriptions once its clear
> what happens to its currently existing bug reports

Like I said, I went though them and they have already been migrated to the new
issue trackers if they where still relevant.

> plus after extension wikipages link to the current bugtracker location.

Since these pages are no longer the primary place where the documentation is
(it is in the README of the appropriate library (yes library, not extension)),
the only thing they should really do is point to the actual docs. The pages
could be deleted, if it were not for that breaking old links we might still
have at places.

Looks like most still link to Bugzilla via "Bugs: list open | list all |
report" plus pages also often still link to gerrit.wikimedia.org. I'm missing
clear instructions on these pages how to file a bug report and enhancement
request.

Components in Bugzilla can get closed for new bug entry. Existing tickets in
these components could be mass-closed with an explanatory comment (preferably
after importing those tickets to GitHub).

(In reply to Jeroen De Dauw from comment #4)
> In the descriptions you can state they no longer exist for
> * ValueParsers
> * ValueFormatters
> * ValueValidators

Looks like they got merged [[mw:Extension:DataValuesCommon]], I see.
Extension wikipage still says that its bugs are on Bugzilla.

> These ones are now on GH:

people, and has the potential for things to be reported at the wrong place,
making the devs not notice them.

If deleting or hiding them is not possible, then at least disable new reports.

In the descriptions you can state they no longer exist for

* ValueParsers
* ValueFormatters
* ValueValidators

These ones are now on GH:

Is it possible to make them invisible or otherwise not show up for regular

In any case, several of them do not have any open bugs.

Heh. Less work then!

> Note that ... components that are disabled for new bug entry. ...

Sure, that's fine.

> Will you update the Extension homepages

Yes. Those should already have been updated actually... so many things to get
to!

> What should happen with the existing open tickets in bugzilla.wikimedia.org?

Remove them. Like I said, either they are not relevant, or they have been
migrated already.

> Out of curiosity, what's the code location plan for git.wikimedia.org vs
> Github? Mirroring?

Depends on the extension. For SMW we have been using GitHub as our primary repo
and issue tracker for quite some time now. Every now and then we sync the code
with the WMF repo for i18n updates (if twn supported GitHub, we'd have gotten
rid of the WMF repo by now).

> That's currently watched (default assignee) by wikidata-bugs@ so I assume it
> requires clarification how to make sure that ticket notifications in GitHub
> are still send to the Wikidata crew.

I'm part of the Wikidata crew and assure you the relevant people are watching

Note that
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions
will not offer (and display) components that are disabled for new bug entry.
The only place where the descriptions would be still visible will be
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions

Hence it's important to inform reporters also in other places where they are
expected to go.
Will you update the Extension homepages (e.g.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Maps ) to clearly say where to file
bug reports and enhancement requests?

What should happen with the existing open tickets in bugzilla.wikimedia.org?

Out of curiosity, what's the code location plan for git.wikimedia.org vs
Github? Mirroring?

And just to mention it explicitly (but I guess you're aware of it), as other
semantic components (Semantic Glossary, SemanticBundle,
SemanticCompoundQueries, SemanticDrilldown, SemanticForms, SemanticFormsInputs,
SemanticSignup) would stay in Bugzilla, moving a ticket from one semantic
component to another will become harder if the other component is in a
different bugtracking system. Just saying, as I have no idea how often tickets
are moved (or initiallymis-filed) among semantic components.

[Bug 53986] "Wikimedia Labs" vs "Tool Labs tools" vs "Tools" Bugzilla product confusion

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53986

I just killed the "dbzip2" component in "Tools" by moving its one valid and
closed ticket to "Datasets".

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Tools

Trying to break this into actionable subtasks:
* grabbers (1 ticket):
Added in bug 55351 but as long as it's not an extension I am tempted
to throw it into the "Wikimedia>General/Unknown" waters.
* WM-Bot (33): We have "wikibugs IRC bot" already under "Wikimedia", so
WM-Bot could also go into its component under "Wikimedia". I've always
been confused how dispersed our IRC related Bugzilla components are.
* mwdumper (44): This is somehow Datasets related so could become a
  component under "Datasets"?

Harder parts:
* code-utils (4 tickets):
PHP stuff. Can't see a good fit somewhere else.
* PhotoCommons-WP (9), VIAF (13):
Some external tools, not sure how actively maintained
* [other] (20, two open):
Random and mostly misfiled stuff. Theoretically could be dumped into
  "Wikimedia>General/Unknown" or such.

If we cannot or do not want to move stuff somewhere else, I'd propose renaming
"Tools" to "Utilities".

[Bug 62109] Add canonical namespaces and aliases to XML dumps

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62109

Re. use case,

One common activity when processing wiki dumps is to extract historical link
information -- something that can't be done with pagelinks. Let's say I'm
processing an enwiki dump and I encounter the following link:

[[WP:Foo]]

Without knowing that "WP" is an alias of ns=4 ("Project"/"Wikipedia") I'd have
to assume that "WP:Foo" is the title of an ns=0 article.

This is a problem for canonical namespace names too. The following link would
reference the same page:

[[Project:Foo]]

[Bug 62113] New: Settings -> Contacts refers to non-existent page on Wikipedia

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62113

Bug ID: 62113
Summary: Settings -> Contacts refers to non-existent page on
Wikipedia
   Product: Wikipedia App
   Version: Beta (iOS)
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Settings
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: drankina...@suddenlinkmail.com
CC: yuvipa...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

IOS Version 3.3.1

Settings -> Contact refers to:

mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:MobileFeedback&feedbacksource=WikipediaMobile%F1.2

a page that did not exist until this morning. I created the WikipediaMobile
page and it was added as a redirect to Wikipedia_App. However, after page
created Settings->Contact still links to a non-existent page. This should be
corrected so that Settings->Contact actually points to the intended page. If
the redirect also needs changing after update, please contact the appropriate
person at wikipedia.org (that may be you too, I don't know)

Can't a collapsed by default section at the bottom of an edit page be added
that shows all of the references for the section being edited?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28idea_lab%29#Section_editing_reflinks_idea
is why I'm bumping this thread. I would think that if whole page references
are really wanted, that could also be accomplished as well, and I can think of
a detailed output method that I think would work great (although I could see
others as disagreeing with me).

[Bug 61822] VisualEditor: Improve the UX of the template editor

What about a drop-down menu with a list of most used templates (on the project
or chosen by the single user)? I think it was asked somewhere else, but it's
being brought up again on en.wp so I hope this is the right place to mention
it. I know something like this will be added to the referencing system, but
it'd be great to have it for more general purposes as well.

As I understand it, the XML dumps are targeted for offline use.

This sounds as though people trying to re-use the dumps need to go online to
get this information. I think this is a perfectly reasonable enhancement
request.

I'm marking this ticket with the "easy" keyword because it shouldn't be very
difficult to add this additional information to the XML dumps. The most
challenging part here is figuring out whether it's the PHP or the Python
maintenance scripts that generate these particular dumps. The actual output
logic can probably be cribbed from the MediaWiki API.

[Bug 62111] New: Importing XML dumps should validate that the target wiki has the same namespaces as the pages being imported

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62111

Bug ID: 62111
Summary: Importing XML dumps should validate that the target
wiki has the same namespaces as the pages being
imported
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.23-git
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Export/Import
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: martinezn...@gmail.com
Depends on: 62109
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

When one imports a XML dump from other wiki, and it contains pages in custom
namespaces, if those custom namespaces doesn't exist on the target wiki, it
will end in pages imported in the main namespace (with the original namespace
in the title, but not without being in that namespace, since it doesn't exist).
That can be confusing, and if a lot of pages are being imported with that
problem, it would be a pain to fix the issue.

It would be good to add some validation when importing the dump, based on the
list of namespaces already present on the header of the dump: If a page in the
dump is in a namespace not present in the target wiki, abort the import.

Things we should consider:
* Adding a checkbox in Special:Import, and an option in importDump.php to
ignore namespace validation: When marked, it should generate a warning at the
end, but proceed with the import of such pages. Otherwise, abort the import
when a page of a not-existing namespace is found.
* Don't validate the list of namespaces that are in the header of the dump,
just when each page is being imported. For example, the original wiki may have
custom namespaces not present in the target wiki, but the dump only contains
known namespaces (eg: namespace 0), in this case it shouldn't abort the import
"early".

A nice addition would be to allow mapping namespaces from the dump to other
namespaces on the target wiki (bug 41969)

[Bug 62109] New: Add canonical namespaces and aliases to XML dumps

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62109

Bug ID: 62109
Summary: Add canonical namespaces and aliases to XML dumps
   Product: Datasets
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

  Assignee: ar...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: aaron.halfa...@gmail.com
CC: gsv...@gmail.com

The XML dump contains a siteinfo header with a tag that is very
useful for processing the text in the dumps. It looks something like this:

Վիքիպեդիա

http://hy.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D4%B3%D5%AC%D5%AD%D5%A1%D5%BE%D5%B8%D6%80_%D5%A7%D5%BB
MediaWiki 1.23wmf15
first-letter

  Մեդիա
  Սպասարկող

  Քննարկում
  Մասնակից

  ...snip...

Regretfully, this header does not include canonical namespace names or
namespace aliases. However, an API request for "meta=siteinfo" does include
these bits. For example, the call for
http://hy.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=namespaces|namespacealiases
returns the following XML:

  Մեդիա
  Սպասարկող

  Քննարկում
  Մասնակից

  ...snip...

  Image
  Image talk

The XML dump should be updated to include this important metadata about
namespaces.

[Bug 62107] New: markup in Education Program edit summaries gets parsed when viewing history

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62107

Bug ID: 62107
Summary: markup in Education Program edit summaries gets parsed
when viewing history
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: EducationProgram
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: rages...@gmail.com
CC: andrew.green...@gmail.com, rages...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

If markup for templates or images is included in the edit summary for a change
to a course page, the template or image gets parsed and rendered. This is in
contrast to the way edit summaries on normal pages get displayed: they have
parsed wiki links, but no images, and templates are not expanded.

For some browsers. Unfortunately
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Language_tools/Support_of_HTML_RTL_features_in_browsers
is not very informative which ones.

Ok fix is merged in MediaWiki core and in the lib upstream repo. It should
wander into the live site within a couple weeks.

[Bug 62017] Restore count of rows on watchlist

2014-03-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62017

last-visited markers can only help, when all changes within the limit are shown
and you can find the oldest non-bold entry to start there, but when you have
more than 1000 changes and there is no non-bold entry you did not know, if a
change of the time frame will show the rest or not. When looking at the number
of rows you can see if there is same place within the limit to show a bigger
time frame.
