Re: [Wikimediach-l] Founding Assembly

2006-04-26 Thread Ilario Valdelli
Hello,
I'm reading and replying to the emails in this moment because I've been
very very busy in these last weeks.

I've indicate my choices in the web page. Unfortunately the stressing
time is not finished yet :( but my hope is to be present at first
Assembly above all to know (face to face) all other members.

For these reasons I've made a choice for a date in May and for Luzern,
Olten or Zürich.

April is impossible for me because I've a deadline in my job for 3 May.

Thanks

Ilario^_^

I'd vote for a sooner date to have the Wikipedia Day OK together in
personal. We enter a phase where I do not wish to work together with a
public system and next syturday would be a good date to sit together.
Foundation could happen just before the WPD06 meeting.

I will show some milestones we should reach to get the day properly
organized maybe later this day. We'll see about the food possibilities
on WPD06 by then.

Best regards

hi,

i also favor a later date. as you say, it does not make sense to do
multiple things at a time. and i have a strong feeling that some
people are occupied with wikipedia day.

== reason "we can talk about wikipedia day at the founding assembly":
if we have to talk about wikimedia day, we should do that,
immediately, without fixing the bylaws before. online, or a real life
meeting. if we want to have a founding assembly we should have a
founding assembly.

== reason "we should not do wikipedia day and founding assembly together"
i agree. even if i prefer it to have at wikipedia day, than now.

in general, to announce a founding assembly with a few days notice
with errenous bylaws is not the best thing i guess. currently the
english version is somehow broken, the german version a little, and
the french version i cannot judge.

All your reasons for having a founding assembly in the near future are
fair enough, and as I wrote, all my favourite dates are after 17 June,
so there is not much I can add to the list of dates...

No problem.

The changes are probably easily done; I am more worried about the
proofreading, since none has been done of the French text yet.

Well, there are two reasons why I'm hurrying with the date:
- first of all I already stated the dates over a week ago when the approval
became known to us
- we have much things to talk about concerning Wikipedia Day, press and
Website (all affecting the others). Because of Wikipedia Day this should be
done soon.
- There may be the idea of doing the founding assembly at Wikipedia Day, which
is no good idea for me: As stated above the founding assembly should also be
an assembly where we can do and decide many things. Wikipedia Day itself
should also be a marketing event for us. So we can't do both in parallel. We
should first put all effort in our founding and future planning and then
later put all effort in our visitors and the press at Wikipedia Day.

Last but nor least the dates were proposals only. Feel free to add your
favourite one.

And: There's no problem, when you can't attend the founding assembly. If you
declare your support and membership we will be able to vote for you and
you'll become member of Wikimedia CH right away.

I already put this on the TODO list...
http://ch.wikimedia.org/wiki/To_do

As we have one of each native speakers here it would be just a little job to
adopt this changes in any language. I agree with you, that this has to be
done before the founding assembly. We could have done this already...

I'm sorry to mention that I will be unable to attend the foundation
assembly if it happens in the near future. As indicated by private email
to Michael and Napa, I will be extremely busy until Wikipedia day (which
means also that I won't be able to participate in any way to this event).

I will thus not indicate any preference for the date (all my week-ends
are fully booked...), nor the location, obviously. However, I will
mention that the proposal I have seen for next week-end seems a bit too
soon to me: I don't think the French bylaws have been proofread (or even
read); there has been some modifications to the English bylaws following
their examination by the Wikimedia Foundation, and some modifications to
the German version following my comments about par. 10.3 (I think).

As Michael mentioned in an email a few days ago, we probably need one
round of final proofreading before the assembly, to make sure that all
the versions are coherent and that all these changes have been made in
all versions.

Best wishes,

Frederic
