RE: [WISPA] Ethernet Error

2005-11-23 Thread Paul Hendry

Because of the amount of errors and one
way transmission I would guess there is a duplex mismatch. Try hard setting
both ends of the link to 10mb half duplex to begin with. If this works try hard
setting both ends to 100mb full-duplex.

Cheers,

P.

I got the same one email. I also get hit with cold calls for people
wanting to fix my radios. I don't know if they are the same company, or
a different scam. The call center making the calls doesn't seem to know
much, but they REALLY want you to send them broken radios.

Them: Do you have any broken out of warranty Tranzeo (or transio) radios?
Me: No. I don't use Tranzeo
Them: We fix all major brands. What kind of wireless CPE do you use?
Me: Waverider. Do you fix Waverider?
Them: Let me check.. yeah, we fix them.
Me: How much.
Them: uh... does $275 sound right?
Me: Have you ever fixed one? We can buy new ones for about $250 in
quantity.

Them: Oh yeah... we fix them all the time How many do you have?
Me: About 25
Them: Well if you send them in, we will send back half of the ones we
fix for no charge.

Me: What do you do with the ones you can't fix?
Them: We keep them for spare parts.
Me: I see. Does your lab have a CCU to test signal level sensitivity with?
Them: Oh yeah, we have all kinds of meters and osciloscopes, and stuff.
Me: Do you know what a CCU is?
Them: uh... let me check. hold on
(long pause)
Them: did we give you the address to send the equipment to?
Me: What equipment?
Them: the Wave equipment.
Me: Should I send the EUM's, the SPK's, or the GLD's. Can you fix all of
those models? (I made up the last two)

Them: Oh yeah. We fix all of those.
Me: I will let you know.

Someone posted recently on how their CPE serial numbers that they sent
in for repair showed up on ebay. I am not sure these "repair shops"

Yep - and that even assumes that EVERY license for any purpose precludes any
use of that channel in the market (and we know that hundreds of low-power
and translator construction licenses are not broadcasting - or, when they
do, typically cover a rather limited target area within the market).

WOW

Even Boston, Firsco, and DFW have about 40% unused TV space. I figured it
would be high but not that high!

New Analysis Demonstrates Availability of TV Band Spectrum for Wireless
Broadband

Revealing the extensive underutilization of frequencies that could make
ubiquitous and affordable wireless broadband Internet service a reality, the
New America Foundation and Free Press released a new analysis of vacant TV
band spectrum in 22 major media markets represented by members of the
Senate Commerce Committee. In every one of the nation's 210 media markets,
unassigned TV channels - also known as "white spaces" - sit dormant and
unused. The analysis shows that even in congested markets like Dallas/Ft.
Worth, 40 percent of the TV channel spectrum will remain unused after
America's DTV transition. In more rural markets like Juneau, Alaska, as
much as 74 percent will be available.

In 2004, the FCC initiated a rulemaking (Docket 04-186) to open up these
white spaces to wireless broadband devices, subject to strict rules to avoid
interference with television reception. The broadcast industry opposes this
move, citing interference concerns. The proceeding, stalled at the
Commission, is now in the hands of members of Congress. This month the
House Commerce Committee marked up DTV transition legislation that includes
a provision directing the FCC to complete the proceeding in a timely
fashion.

According to Michael Calabrese, Director of New America's Wireless Future
Program, "A 'vast wasteland' of TV band spectrum could provide the rocket
fuel for affordable wireless broadband deployment, particularly in rural
areas, but it is up to Congress and the FCC to allow this valuable spectrum
to be utilized by smart radio devices on an unlicensed basis."

The New America/Free Press analysis was featured last week at a Capitol Hill
debate sponsored by the New America Foundation. At the debate, prominent
engineers argued that the FCC's proposed rules minimize the risk of any
interference with TV reception, and that any lingering concerns can easily
be addressed by the FCC's normal rulemaking process. For additional
background on this issue and coverage of the event, click on the link below:

We ordered some antennas that did not work out for us from Hyperlink. We
asked if we could pay a restocking fee and return them. They were very
evasive, just as outlined in the DSL Reports remarks. They eventually
said they would allow a return but only for credit for future purchases.
They also said after asking to do the return at the same time as a new
order to use the credit that we were now blacklisted by them which means
we can never buy from them again. This was our first and only experience
with Hypelrink. I believe this makes them the worst vendor I have ever
seen in my life. (Except for the RBOCs of course!) Buyer beware.

Never had a problem. My sales guy is Neil.

I know nothing about their e-store, as I call and speak to a live person

But, I do this with all my suppliers.

We have a long standing, 5 year relationship with them.

Re: [WISPA] ezlinx.net SPAM

2005-11-23 Thread Reliable Internet, LLC
This is how I picture them. They started as an Alvarian shop. They
learned how to fix them, had the idea "I'll fix others". I believe this
because there spam used to say only alvarian. I think they have an
alvarian network and figured anyone who wanted radios fixed, would send
them in, they keep half (to use on their network) and give you the other
half back no charge. But now they fix all kinds of brands, even
"transios" :) I am just guessing all this but anyway. I don't know
if their legit, but I do know I hate the spam. And if only for that
reasonI'll never use them.

Re: [WISPA] Trouble in Hyperlink land?

2005-11-23 Thread Reliable Internet, LLC
Great feedback John. I always wonder about these other people (posts on
dsl reports), but I know you're honest and I believe you. I have
ordered from them 3 or 4 times and all went well, but I also never got
that warm fuzzy felling from them. I will stay away forever now.

We ordered some antennas that did not work out for us from Hyperlink.
We asked if we could pay a restocking fee and return them. They were
very evasive, just as outlined in the DSL Reports remarks. They
eventually said they would allow a return but only for credit for
future purchases. They also said after asking to do the return at the
same time as a new order to use the credit that we were now
blacklisted by them which means we can never buy from them again. This
was our first and only experience with Hypelrink. I believe this makes
them the worst vendor I have ever seen in my life. (Except for the
RBOCs of course!) Buyer beware.

Re: [WISPA] Trouble in Hyperlink land?

2005-11-23 Thread Travis Johnson
I have been purchasing from Hyperlink for over 6 years. At one time, we
were buying $50,000 per year in equipment from them. I have never had a
problem, and in fact just placed an order with them today.

Re: [WISPA] Trouble in Hyperlink land?

2005-11-23 Thread John Scrivner
I am not trying to start any vendor problems here. I was simply sharing
my personal experience. Maybe someone there just did not like my
purchasing guy. I don't know. I do know that I have never been
"blacklisted" by anyone else in my 40 years on earth. I guess since this
was our first buying experience and we were looking for a way to return
the product they assumed we were a bunch of deadbeats. I really do not
know. I would not have even responded to this thread had I not had a
similar experience to the person who was complaining on the DSL Reports.

I am sure that Hyperlink has many happy customers or they would have
gone out of business long ago. I get the impression that someone at the
company has the task of minimizing returns and is being over-zealous.
Whatever the case, I probably should have just kept my mouth shut. I
have no further dealings with them but wish them all the best. It sounds
like some of you have a good relationship and I do not wish to harm that.
