Hey everyone all is well here in ohio. I got 4 1/2 feet of water in the
basement but other than that all is ok with me. 2 blocks away houses were
swept down the river with water reaching up to 12 feet. All is ok and
thanks Marlon, Joel, Stewart for the concern.

I havn't seen Bo around town any, his basement might be flooded,
everyone else's is. We got 9 inches of rain in 4 hours and all kinds of
problems. I got a tower sitting in water with no power. Running on
generators and batteries. Another tower at a grain facility fried their
electrical system with no plans to fix it, I went their yesterday
morning to see why the internet wasn't working and the 3 phase power was
underwater and smoking the whole place up. Towers are running right now
but customers got flooded basements with POE's underwater and lightning
damage, just started to get those calls this afternoon. Roads flooded
can't get anywhere in any amount of time, traffic is horrible and
gawking people stopping on the road or trying to run into you.

Everyone I speak to about them say they are the best out there at any
price.
Obviously, it depends on the customer. Chances are, anyone THAT big will
have their own in-house IT staff, and will want to do things their own
way. Chances are that means Cisco gear. If they want to pay for it, I can
probably make it work...

It'd have to be an awfully big customer to justify even an Imagestream,
though, much less a Cisco. WRAPs and RouterBoard 200s can reliably handle
traffic up to 15Mbps or so, and probably even more if the board is just
routing (i.e. you're not also using it with a radio card to connect to
something else). Plus, if you get those sekzi finished WRAP cases that Eje
sells, it just looks so darn cool. If you were so inclined, you could
probably make little stickers that say Cisco PIX, put one on the case,
and most customers would be none the wiser. It's about the same size and
everything... :)

Heck, this email comes to you by way of an old Celeron 1.3GHz PC that's
routing our whole network, over 25Mbps at peak times, that never goes over
about 10% CPU utilization, running Mikrotik RouterOS. If it's good enough
for WISPA, it's probably good enough for most of your customers.

I'd love to have a Cisco in that role, but the only real differences would
be:

* Access to Cisco TAC for support
* Paying about ten times the cost

The money I save will buy me a LOT of mailing lists and forums posts if I
ever need help. :)

[WISPA] VPN and Router Choices?

2006-03-15 Thread Bo Hamilton
Hello list,
Im looking at setting up some VPN's and I have looked at many routers that claim ease of use. Linksys, NetGear, D-Link and so on. I was wondering if someone could tell me what is the easiest router for setup.

Also, does one have to have a VPN server( i.e Windows orLinux)or does the router take place of this for remote connections.

The senario I have is one central office with 2 satalite offices that connect to central. The central office having the main VPN router. I want to have the two seperate locations seen in the network neighborhood.

Would this be a router to router VPN? If so what are the easiest one's to configure.

Im new to the VPN world so go easy on me. :)

We will be doing a large deployment of CPEs in the next 60-90days. I would like to hear all of the negatives or issues people are seeing with the Tranzeo CPQ line.
A huge question I have is will it act as a PPPoE client ?Any and all comments are helpful, Thanks ! JohnnyO --WISPA Wireless List:

[WISPA] MT W/ OSPF Problem

2006-01-23 Thread Bo Hamilton
Hello everyone! Im using MT W/ OSPF and Im unable to hitcertain backhaul radios or computers on my backhaul sub.

Example:

On a switch (Radio, Ftp Server Web server, MT Router)---(Backhaul10.10.1.x/24)---Radio-MT router ether1

(Same Board)MT Ether2RadioAP--(wireless sub 10.155.2.x/24)Client

If im on the client end I cannot reach my internal ftp server or my web server, but I can hit my core router(10.10.1.x) or my Mt router ether1(same sub)at the tower. So in short, anything plugged into my switch atthe NOC besides my core routerI canaccess. Weird!

Anyone got an idea

Thanks

we don't like being constrained on the antenna. We would like to use sectors bigger than 60 degrees and we would like to use horizontal polarization. We don't want to use Trango for no other reason than
they can't work with distributors. We really like the flexibility on many 802.11a-based radios and certainly the price, but the contention aspects of the protocol and the perception of Wi-Fi being a consumer
grade technology stop us from going that route. Any thoughts from the list? -Matt--WISPA Wireless List: wireless@wispa.org

Re: [WISPA] How to keep track of appointments

2005-11-15 Thread Bo Hamilton
If your a linux guy or have one you know, you can use a program called
conflux (www.conflux.ee) its a groupware program that has mail,
calendar, job ect. Its very clean and functional with a nice interface
(http). I use this so I can hit my schedule anywhere on the net. Any
groupware will work but this is the best Iv seen (free up to 5 users).
Egroupware (www.egroupware.org) is another one, less visual pleasing
than conflux and its free plus it syncs with outlook (I think). I like
conflux the best due to its job and time tracking ability.

Yahoo Calendar. It will also sync up with Outlook so you can share

explaining

their side of the story
(http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051007/laf057.html?.v=17). Despite more

The restored peering arrangement won't last if Cogent isn't willing to
