Given the following scenario:
New MDU , 15 floors, telco room on top, telco closet on each floor with conduit
to each Unit... what would be the cheapest way to wire this for Cat5 Ethernet?

Switch on each floor, cat5e to each unit. If you have the ability, wire
each floor back to the telco room on the roof, otherwise you could
'daisy-chain' each floor to the one above it back to the roof. Second
option has a lot more points of failure though.

Guess it depends on what you consider cheapest. Homerun to the roof
will add more labor, wiring complexity (and size) and you will probably
run into distance issues on a 15 story MDU.

Hi All,
I'd appreciate your help.
We are trying to find a good number for the WISP industry annual growth
rate. I've seen a number of 4%, but that was just for the really big
carriers.
Does anyone know of a source?

How big is each floor? This may be a case where exact mapping of the
route matters.
Cat5e at 100 Mbps is rated for 100 meters
Can you put switches every few floors, like every 3 or 5? Would cut down
the wiring distance and reduce to only needing 5 or 3 UPSes, racks, etc.

I don't know if you'd be within the distance limitations.
TP-Link switches are pretty cheap.

You might be able to save some $ if you install POE powered Switches on each of

You could do a Passive POE powered from a couple of of the Telco Closets (using

Revenue or subscribers?
For us we have seen a drop in our % growth of subs since the economic
downturn. I think we are around 20% this year (was 40-50%)
But thanks to Netflix we have seen a huge amount of growth in ARPU. I
think our revenue is up 35-40% this year.
Kinda crazy but I don't mind
Too broad of a question really. Here in Indiana, there isn't much low
hanging fruit left to chase. Beyond telcos, cellcos, and cable, there are
multiple wisps to compete against.

The driving factor is # of units per floor, and distance to furthest port.
From there you will be able to determine where your switches need to be. In
some cases we have had to split the building and put switches on every
other floor at both ends of the building because the horizontal run was too
Both measures actually. I think you need both for an accurate picture.

With new firmware and a reset config I think it has to be your machine.
Nothing should persist after those two actions.
