Re: [wsjt-devel] FD FT4 crashing - FAST decode no crashes

2020-06-28 Thread SCHMAHL
I have installed version 2.2.2 and the latest version update of Win10. I notice
that with many cycles I get no decodes even though there are many good signals.
Sometimes there are up to 3 decodes per cycle and then none. On occasion the
decoding stops completely and I have to hit the decode key to start it again or
reboot the program. Many times I have to send a reply 3 or 4 times after
someone replies to my CQ before the QSO continues. Perhaps these problems are
related. I have never had this decoding problem before. It happens also with
very few signals observed on the band not just when it is crowded.

Re: [wsjt-devel] FD FT4 crashing

2020-06-28 Thread Matthew Miller
Just wanted to add I was experiencing random crashing on Linux too, I don't
know if WSJT-X has any logs that would be helpful, all I got when I ran in a
terminal was 'SEGMENTATION FAULT' and it died.

It wasn't especially often for me, but was sufficiently annoying I ended up
writing a while(true) loop that would re-start the program every time it
crashed.

I had the same problem. I managed to grab 2 or 3 of the Apple crash reports.
They go to Apple, but I don't know if they go to the developers. I've sent them
to G4WJS in private email.

If you are running MacOS and get a crash report, doing a "select all" on the
report will let you cut/paste it into a file or email.

I'm running MacOS 10.14.6

Hi Dave,

thanks for that report. Apologies to you and others that we could not
identify the problem earlier. It looked like the bands were plenty busy
enough for working in fast decode mode without AP decodes and missing a
few decodes every period was not too much of a hardship.

Hi Gary,

thanks for that, exactly what I was looking for. That is caused by the
problem we have identified. It is caused by a program error triggered
whereby an AP assisted decode is being processed by either
double-clicking it or the auto-sequencer processing it.

Hi Mike and all,

Joe has identified *a* problem, we are not yet certain that it was the
only issue causing crashes, although that is reasonably likely. Mac
crash reports would still be most welcome to ascertain if other issues

2.2.2 crashed (disappeared) 3 times in the first hour. Also, there were
several times when decoding stopped. (The Band Activity pane was no longer
showing anything new.)

Since it was the beginning of FD, I uninstalled 2.2.2 and re-installed 2.1.2.
V2.1.2 worked fine for the remainder of FD. I wish I had known that I should
try fast decoding instead of deep as I would have tried 2.2.2 a while longer.

Running Window 10 Pro 64-bit v2004 with fast processor and plenty of memory.
Rig is an FTDX-5000 via HRD Rig Control.

I had several crashes yesterday myself on FT-4. In my case I had to reboot the
computer 4 times. I gave up on it. I t did not crash while in FT-8 mode.

Windows 10 Home version 10.0.18362

In my case, I'm not sure if it is a WSJT-X or N1MM error. I'll work on it later
today.

It’s happening on Mac Catalina as well. Happened maybe four times in an hour
and a half on 20m FT4 last night when band was very busy. Running a simple
setup FT 857D, WSJT-X as cat control, signal link for audio, JT bridge, grid
tracker and RUMlogNG. Was using deep decode with ap enabled.

We’ve had the same problem on FT8 at W4DUG, the Tampa ARC setup. We’re running
remote through TeamViewer with WSJT-X installed on the local computer, so there
are no DACs to the client computer. Had it happen with several operators; we
just restart the program. Sometimes at restart, the audio levels are way too
low; we just restart again….

Hi Roy,

this is a known issue with WSJT-X v2.2.2. It writes an invalid header to
its own ADIF log file when the file is first created, perhaps after you
moved your regular ADIF log file aside for FD. It is an easy one-off
fix, go to the WSJT-X log files directory ("Menu->File->Open log file
diectory") right-click the wsjtx_log.adi file and open it with
Notepad.exe or you favourite text editor program (not a word processor
application). The first line of the file will end with , change that
to , save and close the file. Go to "Settings->Colors" and click
the "Rescan ADIF log" button and you are done.
