Just curious; Some of these types of cards from other vendors do have onboard
GPS. I wonder if they would work (GPS wise) without being activated on the cell
carrier?

New user install here in progress. I'm seeing festival errors and
resolve problems to mesonet.tamu.edu after configuring a net port of
rotate.aprs2.net:14580. I just see no dataflow, so I added a second port
rotate.aprs.net:14580 without the filter parameters and both are showing
up status,
with a simple filter, for example m/100 which will give you all stations
within 100 km if your location.
Note: for that filter to work you need to set up your position in Xastir, and
report it to the APRS-IS server at least once.

First time install on Ubunutu 12.04LTS: Install seemed to go ok, no
major issues I noticed. It does run, receive data, but no maps are
displayed regardless of what I choose in the map chooser. Message says
something about internet timeout. What's the fix here, it is obviously
moving data when
I have castor running and have downloaded and extracted 4gb of maps including
the standard load of aprs maps. The problem is nothing ever appears on screen
other than the individual station locations. What is the easy fix or test to
see why they do not display?
