So can you explain what you do by hand?

The only reason why I want a script is so I can have a computer do what I do by
hand and have a reliable way to keep the maps.

Like I said I am not planning on causing any more server stress then I already
do by simply downloading the maps at the certain zoom level I need on a small
area where I am up and about using APRS.

Two things,
One, I know of an app that applies a google maps watermark across the maps when used
offline. Still very usable. Is "supposed" to not violate anything.
Second, there needs to be some straight forward instructions for "morons" (such
as myself) for creating some type of usable mapset that can be used off line with Xastir.
Something one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out.
YAAC can import OSM *.osm.bz2 files for offline use. In fact I have a laptop
doing that process now.
Problem is I like a lot of the features in Xastir that YAAC lacks. In fact
I've made the maps in YAAC look as close to the color pattern I have setup in
Xastir. Plus, I like linux a lot more than MS stuff. Xastir is native and
YAAC is Java based.
