I seem to have fixed the problem, and I have no idea why it works. There is a setting in my system bios called CPU Hardwired IOQ. There are 2 settings, 1 level and 4 level. The default (even in fail-safe bios defaults!) is 4 level... the motherboard manual says that 1 level is more stable. I had
