[Zen] Re: Lesbian Zen Roshis
There was a good discussion here a while ago about morality. I must have missed the part about homosexuality being immoral in the Zen handbook. Or was that YOUR moral judgement. Please, tell us more about the basic concepts of Zen, it seems that your ideas may be much different than others that post here. It may make for good discussion. Just because you see websites that have Roshi's that "appear to be lesbians"? My gaydar is pretty good, but I would try not to pass judgement on others for what they look like. Especially on a public forum where tolerance and understanding is an underlying theme. But then again, I didn't read that in the Zen handbook either! We all have our own belief on what Zen is, or should be, I guess. That's what I like about this forum, we can all post our ignorance and prejudices for all to see, and comment on. I just believe that one's sexual preference has no bearing on their Zen practice. Chris Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading! Talk about it today!Yahoo! Sorry I have had an English error again. Last paragraph should read as: Therefore, I try no to make any judgements about something I don't know what is about. With the exception of knowing that people from the same sex are atracted to each others, and also that homosexuals don't feel sexualy atracted to people from opposite sex. Camila; As far as I know Zen doesn't promote homosexuality but nor discriminate either. In any case my question to you is; Why homosexuals wouldn't have a chance to practice zen as everyone else?. Why they should be denied the right of spirituality in whatever form or tradition this appeal to them?. What is exactly your complain about?. I have no idea of the way homosexuals feel or think. It's a territory completely unknown to me. Therefore, I try no to make judgements about something I don't know what is about except that people from the same sex are atracted to each others and that they are not attracted to people from the same sex. [Zen] Re: Lesbian Zen Roshis
Camila, I'm supposed to be 'just lurking' and not actively posting right now, but I couldn't resist responding to your post. You are incorrect in your belief that "...there is a concept of moral living which underlies the basic concepts of Zen." The concept of morality is based on the belief of good and evil, which is a classic example of dualistic thought. Zen specifically encourages the abandonment of dualistic thought even so far as to abandon the concept of 'self' as opposed to 'others'. If you do encounter any morality issues (or issues about sexuality) associated with people or organizations that claim to represent zen, these are probably associated with Buddhism or are just cultural overlays. They have nothing to do with zen. ...Bill! --- In Zen_Forum@yahoogroups.com, "Camila Diehl" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I have been visiting some Zen websites and I see that there are some women Roshis and they appear to be lesbians.
