Ok, so summarizing the feedback I see so far: Yes all distros support Gtk
2.20, so we can rely on it for new features. No need to support older
version indefinitely. However some systems have older installations that can
not easily be update, so would be nice if zim can run at those systems.

Hi Jaap,
I see following available:
Ubuntu: 2.22 (maverick), 2.12 (Lucid - LST)
Are you sure about Lucid? The version of libgtk-2.0-0 in Lucid seems
to be 2.20, python-gtk2 is 2.17. The same holds for Debian stable and
testing.
Best,
Marcel
PS: I'm on Maverick and Natty, so no problems

Correction, Lucid actually has 2.20 (

Also debian stable (squeeze) has 2.20 (
F14 is on 2.22
F15 is on 2.24
Even F13 is on 2.20, so no issue for Fedora platform.

Are all the official updates installed in that machine?

But I think zim should support debian old-stables
release at least for some month. Squeeze is now stable for two month and
not every admin starts updating directly.
I think this is all not about supporting a release (i.e. providing
bug fixes) but about whether *new* versions of zim ( 0.5) will
I agree with this sentiment. The current Zim is stable enough and feature
rich enough for those unfortunate to be stuck on an older system and unable
to upgrade. Zim would not be the only application impacted by their aging
environment.
