included, or none of the two?

Probably an oversight. zope.app.fssync was most definitely added by
mistake (I assume it wasn't in Zope 2.10). Feel free to remove it. Please.

Apparently it has already been removed from the trunk, so no action is
needed AFAICS.

Lets not break too much, and instead concentrate on replacing DateTime
with datetime in the long run.

If this goes into 2.11, we should also get DT2dt and dt2DT in there.
Being on a Grok sprint right now I don't have time to do that this
week. Can I be given a deadline? I like deadlines. :-) Or somebody
else can do it.

[Zope-dev] Splitting 'Signals' into an egg?

2007-10-04 Thread Sidnei da Silva
Not sure what Zope 3 is using these days (haven't checked), but Zope 2
had a 'Signals' package that handled signaling events on both Windows
and *nix in a somewhat transparent way. Has anyone thought of
packaging that as an egg?

Just to put this in perspective. People in the US will be affected
again by the existing bug starting the last Sunday of this Month (Oct
28). Then, the time-zone -ffset will be off by an hour for a bout a
week.

It might be nice if we could get the fix in the hands of people
before a new Zope release, although that may not be practical. I was
thinking of releasing a separate DateTime distribution, but don't
know if there would be an easy way to install it in such a way that
it was ahead of the existing DateTime in the path.

I think consensus here is that the DateTIme stuff has BBB contracts
which are literally unbreakable:

 - millions of pickles are out there in ZODB land which will barf if
   DateTime doesn't preserve existing semantics.

 - Bunches of third-party application code uses the DateTime API, in
   particular the DWIMish constructor.

I think your change (using pytz to handle timezones, with fallback to
the older code) is a sensible compromise.

If you do not follow it at all, how would you know that the traffic
is pretty high there?

It is, in fact, much lower than on zope3-dev. Here's an overview of the
number of messages in both lists in the last 12 months (cross-posts are
counted twice):

 zope-dev zope3-dev

Oct 158238
Nov 119235
Dec65231
Jan 168300
Feb 127178
Mar 164300
Apr 118282
May89297
Jun 121126
Jul52274
Aug91303
Sep 101411

So zope3-dev has anything between 1.5 and 5 times the number of postings
per month than zope-dev.

If you're not interested in certain topics, then I suggest you simply
ignore those emails.
