(1) Some applications are just plain broken. That is, they don't compile because the code is incorrect, although they used to compile because gcc-2.95.3 compiled incorrect code instead of detecting the error. For these, the best bet is to get the maintainers to fix them. (2) It is possible that there are errors in gcc-2.96RH. (I think I found one for C++, but I haven't had time to try to isolate it yet. The code compiles under 2.95.3 and 2.96RH-latest, but the 2.96RH executable crashes.) For these, you can install gcc and the appropriate libraries from the tarballs (say in /usr/local) rather than trying to downgrade the RPMs. Just remember, *don't* compile system components using it, *do* make sure you link with the correct libraries, and *do* link statically. -- Matthew Saltzman Clemson University Math Sciences [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.math.clemson.edu/~mjs _______________________________________________ Seawolf-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list
