Yes, that saves a lot of time.  But what I want to do is take, say, 2.4.10
plus Alan's patch and a few others (not nearly as many as Red Hat applies)
and build a kernel for a couple of targets with a couple of different
configurations.  That means I can delete a massive amount of stuff from the
spec file, but there's some of it which I don't understand (mostly related
to what they do with the various kernel config files) which means that I'll
probably screw it up.

That's why I am looking for an already-simplified spec file to work from.
