What time of day works best for you? I'd suggest a Friday
morning/afternoon; probably starting *after* the US July 4th
weekend...
Brilliant! I am so glad to have some help. I am in dire need of
assistants. Especially assistants with PhDs.
Okay, so the first thing is to draft up an announcement that covers
all the appropriate bases, and the second is to ensure all the
relevant sites pick it up. The announcement needs to cover:
* date and time
* forum(s) and/or collaboration tools
* opportunites for cross-time-zone participation
* which build(s) to be using
* goals and priorities
* prep work (e.g., bugs to file in advance)
It would of course help to have our own cartoon logo. :-)
anything else?
The announcement should go to:
* railsenvy, rubyinside, rubyflow
* ruby central, ruby matters
* _why's various sites/lists, as appropriate
* o'reilly ruby
* comp.lang-ruby
* developers.slashdot.org
* all of our blogs / twitter feeds
anywhere else?
Once we agree on the "specs", I'll generate a draft we can iterate on.
Once that's final, I (with your help) will push it out to the various
sites at least a week before the event, so we can build some buzz.
Sound like a plan?

As regarding a shoe repair day, I could use help with two aspects.
The .1st. is simply to get word out that it's going to happen. Many
Shoes users aren't on this list and only casually use builds here
and there. Many still use Curious. So, announcements should
emphasize how to get a recent build and roughly what to expect with
Shoes right now.
The .2nd. is to help discover any of the obvious problems people are
finding so that the bug day isn't held up by fundamental things.
So, if someone replies to an announcement with a complaint about
PowerPC support -- yes, _why is going to have PowerPC support all
ready for the bug day, you'll hear from us soon.
Other obvious problems right now are: DMG output on Windows is
having a problem, the OSX commandline script isn't done and none of
the embedded installer options are ready.
I think announcements about shoes repair day should touch on the
July 31st release. Although I'm going to be debugging for years,
I'm excited about having a Shoes that works very, very well by
that date and I can't do that in seclusion.
