Take an old take out or cut off shaft (tip end) and put it in your puller as if being pulled. Now crank down on it. No harder. Noooo I mean real hard! Let me know if you crushed the shaft.

$10 to pull and save the shaft? I just finished pulling the head and I have to tell you that ranks up there with the 975's as one of the most difficult heads to pull. I am still having problems with the shaft slipping through the rubber clamp on Kennedy's puller. I guess I just don't have enough confidence to apply the pressure needed without the fear of smashing the shaft. $110 sounds reasonable enough. Thanks for your quick responses.
