In answer to all the posts on belt sanders for ferrule turning and the speed of the belt. It is all BS!!!!
The belt speed has nothing to do with this process.
The important thing is to use a support (ferrule turning arm) for the shaft and to rotate the ferrule against the belt in the proper direction. Pressure against the belt and the speed of the ferrule rotation is the skill to be learned.
The linen belt will last about 5,000 ferrule turnings!
All this discussion should be relegated to a class titled Navel Contemplation 101 And Other Worthless Endeavors.
A 42 inch belt machine gives you clearance of large driver heads being rotated. A 42 inch machine will cost $120 - $300 a ferrule turning arm can be made for nothing if you have good scavenging skills.
Go forth and save your brain power for other projects!
