Paul, There were discussions a few years ago about how to build a Momentus iron. Perhaps they could help you with your project?
Do an Internet search on building your own Momentus. The basic idea is to take a 1/2-inch round bar of steel and use it for the shaft. You build up the grip to .600 and turn/grind down the tip to .370.
