Your usual goal is to build as long as possible without building up swingweight. That calls for a shaft that is lightweight, and a high balance point would be an assist in that direction.

My usual goal is to build relatively short drivers, without losing swingweight and maintaining total weight. That also calls for a lightweight shaft, but a low balance point.

BTW, for a 60g shaft, a 1" motion of the balance point is worth more than one swingweight point.
