I've been running linux happily for about a month on two of my four computers.
Wanted to be up to date, I chose to install debian 2.1 via FTP. I got the
basic components, upgraded the kernel to 2.2.10. Then on one computer I made
it an IP masqing box for the other 3 computers.

The ip masqing seems to be working fine on just about everything except DCC
sends on IRC.
Well thats not my major concern...my main problem is on the other linux box
that I have set up to primarily learn enough linux to install it on my other
two computers.

Anywayz, onto my real problem. I have Debian 2.1 on it, and then I put X and
windowmaker from source installation. (Not apt get) I then managed to put
netscape and eterm and one or two lil dock apps. But now it seems to have
problems with internet stability. If I try to use the netscape and go through
a couple links at a time it will time out and/or complain about no route to
host. This isn't just restricted to netscape however, lynx and ftp also seem
to be having problems if I try to do more than about 30 seconds of using them.

I'm pretty sure its a linux configuration problem, because I can dual boot into
windows and it has no problems. I also have another windows computer right
beside it and encounters no problems with web pages. What is weird is that it
used to work up till about a week ago, and I don't know of anything that I
could of done that would of resulted with such problems. I checked to make
sure all the IP addresses were different. I changed position in the hub, but
still the same problem. I even rebooted both the ip masqing computer and the
linux computer with no avail. However, I am always able to telnet/ftp into my
ip masqing machine with no problems.
I'm not a linux guru yet, and I have no idea what to do to fix my poor
computer. Anybody have any ideas?

Another minor issue that I would like rectified is that I am on ADSL on
texas.net. Unfortuanately they don't want anybody to abuse their bandwidth
anymore by being a 'server.' so they want an additional $86 a month to be able
be a SOHO...unfortunately I don't have that kind of cash just to be able to
telnet/ftp into my computer when I'm on campus. How do to reroute telnet/ftp
to another port? What ports are safe? Anybody have any recommendations?

Oh, I have tons of other problems, but I will get to those in time.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Jeff
