Huh, that's interesting... I hadn't thought of it, but I have done something similar with a group that occasionally travels together. Somewhere between 6 and 10 people share a house, share groceries and some meals out - even splits for those who participated.
This has been going on since before spreadsheets were so convenient; one person each year would get voluntold to collect the receipts and come up with what everyone owed. It often took months to resolve. One year, it hadn't been done by the time we were driving to the next year's event! I was in the car with the receipts, and I pulled out my Psion 3a pda (tells you how long ago) and made such a spreadsheet. That became the model for this going forward. Not worth it to me for a single outing, but definitely for a week.
