Wait, it gets better. The ticket for Rs. 100 lists a dozen places where I can pay it. Since I was traveling out of town I took up my father's offer to pay it instead.

I naively figured that a visit to the neighborhood traffic circle listed as one of the payment centers would be all that was required. No such luck. The officer on duty who was apparently summoned after much internal debate among the cops at the front desk snatched the ticket from my father's hand and struck out all the dozen or so payment locations and asked my dad to visit the station that had originally issued the ticket instead.

I love it when our system is so extremely helpful. I can see why tipping the cop issuing the tickets to cancel it seemed so appealing to many of the fellow affected car owners.
