I've been bitten by that too - I remember that sometime last year the
IBM America website wouldn't tell me the price until I used a proxy
located in the US.
I'd go with Sthit's suggestion of TightVNC as well - the best option
under the circumstances you describe - although I wouldn't call it too
safe for a server.
