I always believed Maximum Retail Price was a bad thing... (maybe it still
is?)
until I realized what happens in a few other countries. For example, in
many
African countries I find wild variations in price for the same item across 5
different
shops - it turns out most shops overprice these goods for the sake of
margins /
target audience etc... (for example, a shop frequented by expatriates
charges atrociously
for a pack of cigarettes... while the same might be available in another
place 25%
cheaper......) I have seen a similar situation in Europe too....
So doesnt this MRP protect the consumer in some way?
