This is exactly why I *never* give direct debit access of my cash
accounts to *any* entity. I always route payments through credit card
(charges to which can be contested before you actually pay) and then pay
off the credit card.
Much safer I think.
Of course larger transfers can be individually monitored and executed
between accounts.
