They've been more than replaced by idiots trying to sell insurance, credit cards etc. Despite "no salesmen allowed" signs clearly posted in front of apartment buildings. The vegetable vendors have kind of got replaced by Reliance Fresh and other huge vegetable stores, or at least by smaller but permanent vegetable stores - you find at least one in every area these days.
