Isn't the compression really an artifact of culture? Most languages unlike English are usually associated with a predominant region and culture, and so it's really common to have compressed sentences that make sense in light of the local custom. I can't think of any at the moment, but I am almost sure that there are suitable equivalents in English that are very quaintly American or British. Cheeni
