Hey Cory,

Mumbai:

I have stayed at the Leela (now owned by Kempinski and closest to the airport)...many, many times. Its considered pricey by some Indians I know, but is comparable to US hotels in price and has excellent service...particularly on their club floors. Its been there a long time...I stayed there during my first trip to India in the early 1980s.

I've also stayed at the relatively new Hyatt and its a little weird there (inside it feels like you're in Germany, not India). But they have what you'd expect in terms of wireless and amenities.

The previous respondents are right that the Marriott is a reliable choice.

The Oberoi was for years the "nicest hotel in town" and its on Nariman Point (eg. in the heart of things). There's a very nice shawl shop in the lobby if you wanted to buy a present for Alice :-). Both Oberoi and Taj are Indian luxury hotel brands. Their flagship hotels have all the expected services and amenities.

Pune:

Your choices are more limited. There is a Le Meridien where I've stayed a few times. French hotels always have weird telephony stuff, although the wifi in Pune is acceptable. There's also a Taj. Both are relatively close together (presumably to serve the foreign visitors coming to the Osho Commune). Actually you can stay at the Osho Commune if you're willing to have an HIV test ;-). More on that if you're intrigued...

They've been working for some time on a new "Conference Facility" that may have a nice hotel attached.

I'm looking for a good hotel in Mumbai for 7 nights -- someplace in an
interesting neighbourhood with good food; 24h room service preferred,
good broadband, and a decent bed. I'll be travelling to Pune once or
twice, so a location that's convenient to that trip is important too.
Anyone got a favourite?

Thanks!

Cory
