Well the Mark Hopkins (like the Imperial in Delhi or Raffles in Singapore or the Oriental in Bangkok) is more than a hotel..its a landmark. Heck, Kim Novak's character *lived* there in Vertigo. :-).

Price-wise however, I still say they are comparable. Sometimes Bombay is higher and sometimes SF is...depends on a few factors...but they're still in the same ballpark. I paid $179 last time at the Leela (in December). Meanwhile...Bangalore has gone completely ape- shit. My pal Mitchell Baker was charged $800 a night for a room at the Windsor. OMG!!!

And I've stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins at the top of Nob
Hill, ditto the Intercontinental at Bombay. While the bombay one is quite nice there's a certain something about the Mark Hopkins (nothing much at
all going wrong) that attracts me to it .. especially as I get to stay
there at rather cheaper rates than usual ($199 rates negotiated by the
conference I usually go to is a steal)
