I just read a review[1] of "Rethinking Hindu Identity" by DN Jha[2]. If anybody on the list has read it, would love to hear what they think of it. This particular quote (from an interview, not the book) resonates with what Shiv posted - "The invention of Hinduism is opposed to our idea of a composite culture of which we are justly proud. Emphasis on the Hindu-Muslim dichotomy has led to many problems in our country. If we could do away with the term Hindu, much of these problems would be solved" Kiran [1] http://openthemagazine.com/ (You have to navigate to the review, no permalinks) [2] http://www.amazon.com/Rethinking-Hindu-Identity<http://www.amazon.com/Rethinking-Hindu-Identity-RELIGION-CULTURE/dp/184553459X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245859543&sr=1-1>
