Seems to me like possibly the outcome is better if the fusions are in
the cervical spine. I have heard of a lot of people with lower spinal
fusions in which the vertebrae above the fusion kept crumbling,
necessitating more fusions. One friend of mine's husband has now had 3.
He ended up in more pain and disability than he started with, and from
what I can tell this is not at all uncommon with lower spine ops.
