The use of plastics in food is a separate issue from microwaving. The main problem seems to be that heating plastic causes more toxins to migrate into foods. This has been established by mainstream experiments. Any kind of fatty food stored in plastic also soaks up other toxins. Most of these toxins, like dioxin, etc, are fat soluble, and any contact will leach toxins into the fatty protion of the food (or whatever). This is why the use of white bleached paper towels to drain bacon after frying was discouraged- the dioxins in the bleached paper towels leached into the fat.

For those of you still using microwaves because you're pressed for time and you think short periods of time won't hurt your food, please read this article and re-consider.  See why exposure to the energy-field itself was sufficient to cause such adverse side effects that the use of any such microwave apparatus was forbidden in 1976 by Soviet state law.
