And I have more than once used CS to clean up things that were iffy. Typically it will be a piece of fish that I should have cooked a few days ago, and it has been sitting in the fridge too long, and when I unwrap it, it has that very strong fish smell to it that tells you it is already being enjoyed by some kind of bacteria. So I put it in the sink, cover it with water, and pour in a little CS. Let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse it off, and it smells as sweet as when I bought it. And no bad effects from eating it.
