You are right because I have in the past sent emails to the companies and asked 
if there are alternative rates and have met with a flat 'no.'  iHerb, which is 
in California, do an International rate for $4 which takes about one and a half 
weeks to get here in the UK.  I have asked other companies--which are a lot 
nearer--why they can't but they just say that is their rates.  dee
