I believe everyone would know by now that I don't communicate all that well via
this forum medium so perhaps I'd better try a bit harder. I don't want to take
over the List with my ramblings but there are a few things I'd like cleared up
so it doesn't appear I'm dramatising or over stating anything. I think people
may be getting a false impression with this case, I most certainly hope nothing
I have said indicated a dramatic or severe case of Shingles.
The *doctor* said it was a severe case...Going on what you people are saying I
now have to question that word 'severe?'. It appears it is not remotely like
severe to me...Does the doc know best??? How many cases has this doctor seen
to make that statement regarding severity??? Not too many I would be thinking.
(1) Our lad had it on the left side of his head, and went down by his ear to
his neck, and shoulder too I think. The rash sort of covered that entire area.
Now, he never busted out in blisters breaking the skin, only a handful, the
rest seemed to heal from the inside, but he WAS in considerable pain.
(2) My better half however has two small areas, perhaps about 3-4 inches in
length and about 2 inches wide maybe, and one smaller area not worth mentioning
almost in the middle of the back. The stomach area however is probly the size
of an outstretched hand, with fingers together, like you would hold your hand
up as a stop signal, might be a tad longer than a hand but that's near enough.
Going on what everyone is saying here, this appears to not be anywhere close to
a severe case as the doctor suggested.
How is 'severity' defined? Is it the area the rash covers? Is it the number
of blisters which break the skin over a given area? Is it the pain level? I
do understand it may depend on an individual as to how severe it is but this
appears to be a mild case, if I'm picking up on the correct vibes among you
people here.
It has to be said that although there is still some pain, there are MANY broken
blisters on the stomach area which now have dried and scabbed. This in itself
will cause pain, and could also give the impression of internal pain as the
skin is constantly moving which will be causing those scabs to 'crack' if you
get my drift. She is also coughing which aggravates it.
Again I apologise for prolonging this dialogue about Shingles but I just wanted
to try to explain a little more. I'm getting the impression that this is just
an ordinary stock standard run of the mill case of Shingles, you know, a bit
bad, but nothing too serious.
I have taken in everything everyone has said here but my observations currently
indicate she is doing pretty damn good <my smile is a little bit bigger today>.
