Several months ago, my wife read in a magazine about a product called Zicam. You spray it in your nose and the is stopped in just a few days. My personal experience with it (twice) was that the cold went through all the unpleasant stages but did in in a much shorter time. In my case, the cold ran its course in three days instead of the usual 7-10 days.
Don't know how well it will work with an established cold. In my case, I purchased it ahead of time so had it on hand when the cold started.
