Thanks for pointing out that oversight.  I definitely should have mentioned not breathing in the dust.  The dust applicator I use outside and I use a mask.  When I used the d.e. on my carpet, I did remove my animals.  However, when they allowed on the carpet again, I would imagine they were exposed in some way to the dust even though it had been vacuumed.

Thanks for the warning on Pyrethrum.  Some of that stuff would knock me out, let alone the poor animal it was going on!

Hi Dottie,
I think there's reason to be at least a bit cautious when using diatomaceous
earth. It's quite unhealthy to breath, and would be unhealthy for the lungs
of a pet too.
Similarly, use caution when deciding to use another supposedly "safe and
natural flea killer"... Pyrethrum - an extract from chrysanthemum flowers.
I know of a cat who just yesterday started having seizures... the owner's
vet diagnosed the problem as poisoning from flea shampoo containing
pyrethrum, and marketed as safe for cats and dogs, NOT!
Just 'cause it's "natural" don't mean it's safe ;-)
