NO3 and NO are produced by sparks or corona discharge. They both have fairly
strong odors in very small quantities. If NST's produced these at toxic levels,
then you would be getting poisoned any time you went in a store with a neon
display on the wall or window. Although I sometimes smell these gases along
with ozone during a thunderstorm, I have never smelled them while making CS. If
care is taken to avoid any corona discharges or sparks then little if any of
these gases should be made.

I am puzzled by how adding a CO2 blanket to the brew cell would prevent these
gases from being made. They would still be generated elsewhere in the system if
there are sparks or corona discharges. If they are made anywhere you would
still end up breathing them. It seems that a blanket would only prevent the
gas, if generated from getting absorbed into the CS itself.

I will have to get a kit to measure these things and see if any is getting into
the CS I make with submerged electrode.
