Good heavens, I was just passing on a comment seen written which pertained
to the discussion! Others have quoted from more illustrious sources,
containing the same info! I didn't realise that I had to have a PhD and
quote sources in triplicate to enter a conversation on this list! Mea culpa!

Hidden agenda? What, to make us all take oodles of unnecessary supplements?
When the governments of your country and mine are hellbent on seriously
restricting what we can buy in the shops? I don't think so! Where's the
hidden agenda in suggesting that maybe trace elements should be returned to
the soil? That our food quality ain't what it used to be? I quite agree, in
an ideal world, natural would be all that's needed, and it's definitely
best, but this ain't an ideal world and our farming practices have gone to
hell.....American more than British, what with feed-lot beef pumped full of
steroids, and genetically-engineered crops used as a matter of course
(something we still hold out against, despite government trying to force it
down our throats). Organic food has caught on in a big way over here, but
it's not affordable for the majority, especially meat and dairy. When all
food is organically produced, when artificial fertilisers and weedkillers
aren't used as a matter of course, when GM food has been chucked in the
dustbin where it belongs, when meat beasties are free-range, then maybe it
will be safe to say that we get all the nutrients we need for optimum health
from our food. Until then it's probably safer to keep taking the pills.
