I use a counter top distiller that makes a gallon of DW in about four
hours, less if you preheat it. It costs $99 from
www.wholesalewaterdistillers.com .

It has already paid for itself. Makes great coffee too!

I was soooo tired of carrying bottles of distilled home from the store.
I had started buying it in 5 gallon bottles. The quality was consistent
but the extra work was not what I needed.

I love having the counter top distiller. I am even thinking of buying a
more pricey model and plumbing in to my sink where I can put a tap just
for the DW.

I do start out with well water, so organics are not an issue for me.
That is the one failing of home made DW, if you think you have organics
in your water with a boiling point lower than water it is possible for
those to pass into the collection vessel. A water test will answer this
for you -- ask for an organics panel. Anything that shows up, check the
boiling point. If it is less than 212* F you may be at risk.
