I have tried many times to convert to vegetarianism, but have been

and advocates a vegetarian diet. However, when a person is really ill,
it recommends chicken soup and also acknowledges that some people need
meat at times. I have been told by Ayurvedic physicians that it may be
necessary for me to eat meat.
This indicates to me that the balanced outlook is to accept that everyone
is different, with differing needs.
Sally
Hi Sally, no, nowhere in the Vedas or other old literature is eating meat
as food ever recommended. The whole ayur vedic concept is toward
enlightenment and away from killing - especially unnecessarily. It is
well-recognised by them that to get people into a killing mode (as
soldiers) that they should be fed meat - especially if they ritually chase
and kill it.
However, MEDICINALLY it is often prescribed to ingest things like
consommes because they will supply big amounts of certain needs very
quickly, e.g. usable iron.
But, as Ed said elsewhere in the list, the Chinese use a lot of animals in
treatments, but believe me, you would have to be awfully sick to eat
"Blackleg Chicken Soup". Here is the method:
The chicken is trussed up and thrown live into a boiling pot of water,
feathers and all and rendered down into a consomme. The big feathers are
discarded. I'd get well quickly if they wanted to feed that to me, too. :-)
Just take it easy on yourself, Sally. What is your body type? Hot, Cold or
mixed? Carefully follow the suggestions in the early days. Especially if
you have a history of toxicity ( being ill), you are going to get some
reactions as your body begins to cleanse. If you are overweight by even
10lbs you have a lot of toxins to get out! ( Average American female is
20lbs overweight - not fatsos just "normals"). Did you go to India to study?
If so, the chances are nearly 100% you have picked up intestinal
parasites. Garnet on this list had success with Olive Leaf Extract and
anyone who has gone at all "native" outside of Europe is well-advised to
get de-wormed!
Cheers,
Himagain
