Is there a fourth case, that of remote to PRI Gateway? I'm using the mediant 2000 and have my Coder settings set to a ulaw, alaw, g729 order because we are routing faxes. I think we had to use ulaw first in order not to break faxes. Thanks so much for the explanation, it's like a condensed course in using codecs. I've got a much clearer basic knowledge of how things work now.
