I don't think it's your Acme SBC. Registration caching and NAT traversal from the SBC to sipXecs worked from day one for me, and I understand there are several implementations using sipXecs with Acme SBCs. Since your doesn't seem to be an sipXecs related problem; please send me a PM if you're interested and can look at this offline.
