When using polar projection, north is usually up, and in alt-az (zenithal)
projection, the horizon is down, but I've run into situations when switching
back and forth where the chart gets skewed. One way to get it straightened out
again is to click "search>locate new position..." and set the "orientation" to
0 degrees.
I like the ruler idea. I often draw a box to zoom in, so I sometimes loose
track of the scale, and trying to find numbers on the grid lines to determine
the scale can be tedious.
